$5000 Flat Rate For Barrels to Jamaica

Postby ECO » Mon Dec 07, 2009 12:50 pm

Shipping fee= $_______

Customs fee now a flat $5000

Having someone waste a day driving to the warehouse and spending hours waiting for the barrel $_______

At what point does the whole barrel shipping thing get more expensive than buying the stuff in Jamaica or having someone bring it down?

The department has introduced a flat rate for the clearance of barrels, which took effect on December 1. Persons clearing barrels containing personal effects will pay a standard Customs fee of $5,000 per barrel.

Speaking with JIS News last week, Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Danville Walker, stated that the flat rate will help to speed up the process to clear barrels.

"That really helps to expedite the clearance of barrels through Customs because people now know exactly what they are going to pay. Customs will use its procedures to determine whether it is commercial or personal effects. The only concern we have is the ability.to locate the barrels in the warehouses. That is sometimes a challenge," he explained. Source http://sflcn.com/story.php?id=7539

Damswell, does the $50CDN include the barrel?

How much time on average does it take at the warehouse to wait around for them to find your barrel(s)? I've heard some people complain about hours but then again nobody will take the time to say how great a 5 minute wait was.

it depends on the time of year and how busy they are. the longest ive been at the wharf was 4 hours, the shortest an hour start to finish. i dont know about kingston, ive only shipped to montego bay.
