Acceptance of Homosexuality

Postby LadySizzla » Mon Dec 07, 2009 5:51 pm

It just hit me watching I'm a Celeb Get me Outta of Here, how nice it was to see a happy loving gay couple being shown on mainstream primetime tv with no backlash whatsoever from the British audience. In fact I thought Justin & colin were so sweet together. Obviously I know about Jamaican opinion on this but as far as US/CA is concerned I would be interested if this is common over there too. I'm pretty sure most of europe is pretty laid back about it too. if there are any differences i would like to question why? (nobody has to even answer why jamaicans are anti-gay cz I already know lol) i'm just curious if other countries have this tolerance too? it actually made me feel proud to british and i'm usually so unpatriotic!

Other than watching Will & Grace for a few months I don't watch network TV so I don't have a feel for what is the current trend. In real life the gays in my part of America are not completely out of the closet. Most of the ones that I see in public eat at gay owned or gay friendly restaurants (good food) and attend gay events. This is not to say they stay away from "regular" places, rather they let their hair down in the places that they feel comfortable. IMO, the US is years away from gays being able to walk down every street holding hands without some jackass yelling stuff at them.

We do have a few gay neighborhoods and towns where outsiders learn really quick to keep their closed minds on the down low. "P-Town" at the end of Cape Cod MA is a good example.........that town has PRIDE.

I wonder what makes europe different then Eco. Is it religion? I know there are a few strong catholic countries in Europe but apart from that I'm not aware of a strong religious following - much like england.

Honestly I think people here are just worried that their kids will see the gay stuff and ask questions. Like it's the end of the world for someone to have to explain to their kids why Mr & Mr Jones can't go to heaven because they are gay and Jesus hates gays.........my attempt at humor. IMHO, they people that hold a bible over their head to tell others what to do should read it.

There are some groups in the States(Churches and some Conservatives) that won't accept homosexuls. Yesterday on the news there was a church groop protesting homosexuals, sinners and abortion. One of the leader of the pact said "if you continue to live in sin they are going to hell, and siners must repent before its too late"

In Uganda, proposed legislation would impose the death penalty for some gay Ugandans, and their family and friends could face up to seven years in jail if they fail ot report them to authorities. Can you imagine that? We, (America) and other country have a long way to go when it come to tolarance of homosexuals.

well my idea of hell is having to live under false pretences and hide who I was, so those church leaders can send me to hell if they want. I consider myself lucky that i dont have this problem and can live freely.

Boston is gay!!! LOL Guess Eco only does "man" things.. My best friends are gay and married in Boston, I attended their wedding and I had never seen so many gay people in one spot LOL I love them!!!

Aruba is kinda anti-gay... It is still kinda taboo... In Holland even straight dudes act and look gay, seems to be "hip" :D

Lol, cross the line between South Boston (Gay) and Southie where the Irish live and see if gays are welcome or even black people for that matter. While you are crossing lines, go over to Dorchester and see how they treat gays. The more liberal areas of Boston like Newton & Cambridge accept anyone so long as you are not what society calls "normal".
