Anything Going on in Runaway Bay?

Postby Mia Freedom » Fri Jul 31, 2009 12:30 am

We're headed to Runaway Bay next week and wondering what the nightlife's like. We really want to see live reggae/music, but are staying at a private house and don't have access to any of the resort bars. Are we stuck having to get a ride into Ochos every night we want to go out? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

The drive from Runaway Bay to Ochi is not that far even though there is music outside of Ochi. What nights are you looking to head out for music/live shows?

If I knew which hotel you were staying at, I could be of a little more help as far as a dress code goes. If I were you, I would goto the hotel's website and see what you can glean from the pictures they have on the site. You'll get a better idea and understanding of what standards are set.

Bring American money and exchange it in $50 or $100 increments. If you plan on leaving the hotel property often, then $100 increments will do just fine. Jamaicans accept either currency. Most of the time they prefer to have US dollars. Its a more stable currency (so far!).

Remember to bargain on prices outside your hotel. You can get great deals if you play the game and refuse to pay the first price thats quoted to you. Just be fair--Jamaica is a very poor country and people have to make a living as well.
