Bauxite Prodution Shut Down in Jamaica

Postby ECO » Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:07 pm

I guess they could not wait out the recession so say good bye to the bauxite (Aluminum) production in Jamaica. IMO, it's odd timing since in the states the demand for Aluminum scrap metal is paying 5 times what it was paying a year ago (meaning the demand is back up).

I wonder if they are going to turn the "thunder dome" in Runaway Bay into a giant indoor dance hall :jestercolor:

It sucks that so many families will be without work but at least the countryside will no longer be raped from mining the Bauxite! Full story at http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN3121408220100331

Actually, I just got back from the recycling yard and they are paying 6 times what they were paying a year ago. Since I was able to recycle about 1200 pounds this week at higher prices I'll have some more vacation spending money :-)
