I bet you didn’t know these things about Parksville

Postby Nanoose » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:02 pm

Years ago the powers that be in Parksville decided that it was time to get a piece of a new action (non family torsion) so they changed Parksville’s name to Parksvegas and then let it be know that – what happens in Parksvegas stays in Parksvegas and they started saying it was the biggest little city on Vancouver Island - to quote Forest Gump – and that’s all I got to say about that.
Another thing you might not know about Parksville is this will probably be the year that Parksville gets invaded by the giant killer Bullfrogs. Years ago a restaurant in Deep Bay was going out of business and they released their bullfrogs into the wild. (they sold fresh bullfrog legs). The Bullfrogs multiplied and spread out towards the south as they travel they wipe out the other species of frogs, salamanders, a few types of fish they even eat baby ducks. Their not really giants but I heard stories of them eating rats and cats.
I think there are bylaws that if you have the bullfrogs or their tadpoles on your property you have to report to the department of wild life and fisheries then for free they come and try to eradicate the bullfrogs. Cheers and Happy week end!

Are those the kind of frogs you can lick for a mind-bending, psychedelic experience (if you happen to live)?

True story: Some years ago, in Albemarle County (central Va), residents of a housing subdivision were in a panic after reports that a giant frog had killed someone's dog and was on the loose in the neighborhood. Apparently someone had somehow obtained a rare species of giant poisonous South American frog as a pet, and it had escaped. Panic set in after someone's dog was found dead in the owner's backyard--presumably the dog had encountered the escaped giant frog and either licked or tried to bite it, with deadly consequences to the dog. The escaped frog was eventually apprehended in someone's backyard, but only after a couple of weeks of an entire community living in mortal terror of an escaped giant dog-killing frog.

Update on the giant dog-killing frog of Albemarle County. It's mentioned in The 1996 Virginia News Quiz published in The Washington Post: "...in Albemarle County, where Bufo, a three-pound South American toad with poisonous skin, proved deadly for Duke, an 11-year-old German shepherd who regrettably mistook Bufo for a doggie toy."

The entire quiz is available at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/pr ... vaquiz.htm

Our frogs aren’t poisonous but who knows what’s out there people release exotic pets in the wild all the time. Cheers!
