it is unfortunate these type of things happen, it should not ..............but it has been happening for many many years same as it has in many other countries such as US, UK, Canada etc....People who travel to any contry or even city that they are not familiar with....even if you are familiar should be careful of where you go, who you go with and just be smart.....this story im sure has background that we are not aware of.......

I was just discussing this with someone in JA and they said noose around the neck signifies he was gay - I didn't know that what it means.

The British consul murdered in Jamaica may have been the victim of a homophobic attack.

A note found with John Terry's body referred to him as a "batty man" – slang for a homosexual – according to reports.

The news website Go Jamaica has reported that St James police suspect Terry knew his killer. The authorities have not revealed any possible motives and no arrests have been made.

It was reported today that the handwritten note found with Terry's body was signed "Gay-Man" and warned: "This is what will happen to ALL gays."

The Foreign Office said it was not aware of any homophobic aspect. A spokeswoman said it remained in close contact with Jamaican police. source:http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/11/consul-jamaica-gay-hate-terry

Today's news on this topic:

Jamaican Police Deny Antigay Murder Motive

Contrary to initial reports, police in Jamaica say that homophobia was not the motive for the murder of a British envoy found dead with an antigay note next to his body last week.

Police in Jamaica deny that the murder of British honorary counsel John Terry last week was motivated by homophobia, in a refutation of initial press reports.

Terry, 65, was found dead in his home near Montego Bay, St. James on Thursday, naked, strangled and beaten with a note next to his body that read, “This is what will happen to all gays,” according to The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper. The note also reportedly called Terry a “batty-man,” the Jamaican slang for a gay person. However, according to the Jamaica-Star, an officer attributed with that account in the tabloid on Friday denies that he described the scene that way.

“He also said that the note found at the scene of the crime had nothing to do with homosexuality,” reported the Jamaica-Star . “As it relates to the content of that document the officer said that would not be disclosed, as it is a matter of investigation." http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News ... er_Motive/

EDIT: It's called Damage Limitation. They would have to come out and say this. I meant they can't have the rest of the world thinking that JA is anti-gay right? ;-)

I was thinking the same thing as was going to open another thread to discuss it. The Gay media are starting to pick up on this and I'm waiting now to see if they call BS on the back pedaling. I'm still :scratchheadblue: on how it took several days for the police officer to change his story or to correct the reports that he saw the anti gay note.

Gossip and rumor fuel the media in JA. Many people are labeled gay when there is no truth to the matter- I also think you have to take what a policeman said to a journalist with a grain of salt.
