You're right, the doc will just collect his copay and can't do a damned thing for your toe, but if you tell him you'd rate your pain as 10 on a VAS pain scale, where 10 is "worst pain imaginable," and wince and moan convincingly, you might be able to persuade him to write you a prescription for Percodan. Tell him you can't sleep, too, because of muscle tightness related to the pain, and ask him if he can prescribe a muscle relaxant, too--such as injectable Valium preferably. He might get suspicious, though, if you keep coming back to him with more broken toes.
I've lost a couple of great toe toenails ("runner's toe," where they turn black and fall off, but then grow back), but only one broken toe. In fact, the same toe (the toe next to the little toe on my left foot) was broken twice. I think the doc gave me a few Tylenol 3 and advised me to avoid sports activities for a few days. That toe's now all knarled, and the toenail resembles a snail shell.
