Yes, it can be cold... depending on where you are (winters not as cold as places like Minnesota, ND, MI, etc though... remember a lot of canada is south of the states).
Yes, gravy is often an option for your french fries, however to be really uniquely Canadian, you need to order Poutine, which is the dish consisting of melted cheese curds, gravy, and french fries--which is particular to the French Canadian cultures. The best poutine i've ever had, however was in New Brunswick (Canada's only officially bilinual province). Northern NB is very, very francophone.
Yes, we hear all the time about how the strip clubs are so much better in Canada... funny thing is, the strippers are mostly from Quebec too. Must be the Poutine that makes them want to take their clothes off. {shrug}
Yes, the beer is stronger than down south, and alot of it is very good. I still prefer beer from the UK, Germany, & Czech though... more of the flavours I like. The "standard" beer in Canada is not very good--but the small brewery fare is excellent. I've found the same in the US... you can get good beer if you hunt around. Found a pale ale I really liked when I was in Nevada in november '08.
I like Canada for many reasons, and will likely never move back to the UK--quality of life is just better. However, the licorice, chocolate and beer leave a little to be desired, so I need to import from time to time
Electronics (i.e. DVDs, etc) are cheaper here, but I buy 95% of my clothes in the US because for some reason, the same pair of jeans or shirt is 400% more in Canada.
Oh yes... another downside to Canada is the lack of alcohol in grocery stores and corner stores (except for in Quebec). They control the sale a little too much imho. Although, maybe it's a good thing because if I can't get beer in the gas station I don't tend to drink and drive as much.
