My 40 Day Diet

Postby ECO » Wed Aug 12, 2009 2:51 pm

I've never been one to diet or exercise for a purpose like to look good in my bikini or so old clothes fit and now I'm about to embark on a forty day diet with no purpose in mind. After watching "Super Size Me" the other night I knew that I had to cut fast food out of my lunch menu, that crap is bad for me.

So, I'm starting this week (no clue about next week) with rice, veggies, fruit, eggs and tuna. For bread I'm using whole wheat wraps even though they contain too much sodium IMO. Speaking of sodium, the lowest I could find for canned tuna is 360mg a can.

Some random thoughts:

I need to source a better place for fish, my supermarket only carries salmon, cod and Talapi (sp).

I need something to put on my corn on the cob instead of an ounce of butter.

Thanks for the tips TInks.

The Tilapia from my local store comes from 1/2 of the way around the world and that bothers me......we have plenty of local fish that they could sell instead. Speaking of which I live on a lake that is full of fish.

Some salmon is ok, it all depends on what waters they come from. Some of the bad ones are full of mercury and I don't feel like rolling the dice with chemicals.

Water is all I drink besides coffee and beer if I am at my boat. I'm not going to stop drinking my beer but I am putting some though into decaf coffee.

I'm using brown rice without any crap in it, the best I could find is 34grams of carbs. It's amazing how all of the good tasting rice is sooooooo bad for you.

Oh, I just found out that a clove of garlic with my lunch might be a little much. All I can taste now is garlic!

I dusted off my treadmill, set it up and then remembered that I have no clue where the key is to turn it on.

Salmon is always on my grocery list. I never pay much attention as to whats good to eat and whats not good to eat. So ECO, what okay and whats not okay? Starting a diet is not easy, I just fall of my summer diet...haven't eat anything healty or exercise in a month. I think you can do it. Good luck!

BB, the 40 day thing is a joke since I keep hearing people talk about a 10-20-30 day diet so I had to me and be different  Every year I tend to eat good food when it is in season and crap food in the winter so this is nothing new for me. Generally my winter weight is around 235 and my summer weight is around 220.....this year I am at 233 and it's summer time. :-(

As you might know, I have an ego the size of a small state so my weight one way or the other does not bother me  The competitive side of me wants to see if I can lose weight faster than the guy from that super size me movie

On a side note, I am planning a vacation for about 40 days from now but the two have nothing to do with each other.

Rose, I don't always stick with it but I try to stay away from anything with chemicals. For this diet I'm using all raw ingredients, no canned goods, no spices with chemicals, and watching the fat content on everything. Since I eat out twice a week for social events I will still allow myself those two meals

Thanks for the vote of confidence

Rye and pumpernickel are my favorite, I hate white bread! Cutting bread out of this diet will save me around $40 over the next 40 days.

"brown rice pasta"= is that rice or pasta, I'm confused. The stuff I have now tastes like crap alone so I mix everything together.

Wow, the will power to stay away from all of that tasty food while dining at Wendy's today with someone that works for me. I ended up with a chicken Mandarin orange salad and only used about a table spoon of the dressing. I kept my head in the salad the whole time so I would not have to watch the other guy eat a nice burger with bacon and big chunks of blue cheese or feta.

I've been getting on the scale every morning and so far the numbers are decreasing, lol a pound a day but it's only been a few days.

Lol, a pound is not that much and thank god I weight myself everyday in the morning before I drink anything and after I use the toilet. I found that drinking like a fish Saturday night was not the best thing for a diet, Sunday was a bad day on the scale. When you think about it, a 16 ounce glass of water is a pound so I'm sure our weight changes by a few pounds over the course of a day.

So far I've stayed away from any food with added chemicals, all meat except chicken, nothing to drink but water and one decaf coffee a day.......I don't like to watch other people eat tasty food around me. My snacks are now fruits and veggies and honestly they taste better than my bland meals.

I doubt I will be skin and bones since other than my chest and little belly I am already skin and bones. I think between my nightly kayak rides and that boring treadmill I'll end up turning some of the fat into muscle and it might screw up the weight loss thing.

I doubt I will lose 28 or more pounds in a month......maybe 1/2 of that. I'm not sure what I will do once I come back since I generally eat a good diet in the fall anyway.

Lol @
sea, sun, sex and ganja
I'm hardly ever in the water down there.....not sure if I even swam once :scratchheadblue: Sex in Jamaica is not part of my travel plans (I plan everything). The sun....I hide from it, us saltine ass MF'ers get sunburns! Ganja.........no hiding that one, I have a hefty budget of $60 this time for ganja. :dreads:

Lol, I don't like to smoke in public or around people, I'm private about it for some reason. That's why I like Jamaica nobody wants to share spliffs! Hopefully I will be staying at the Xtabi or one of the places on the west end since all sorts of Ital food is within walking distance. If I stay there I will have no excuse not to go for a few swims. I wanted to go swimming in Ochi this spring but nobody would join me :-( you see I'm a very fast swimmer and like slower swimmers around me when the sharks come to feast.

I tried an experiment once. I hypothesized that if I bought only beer that's so vile as to be practically undrinkable (like Iron City), it would significantly reduce my beer consumption. That was another failed experiment.

Something is telling me that sharing my secret to not getting eaten by the sharks was a bad idea here. Now nobody will be my bait.....I mean my swim partner :???:

Just got back from enjoying a nice meal out and a Thai place. Real food tastes soooooo good! Shy of the noodles in my onions, peppers and other veggies, the only difference was that they use some sauce with peanuts to make everything taste so good. I think I'm going sauce shopping to see if I can find something that's healthy and still tasty.

Eco, you must try the Vietnamese spring rolls with peanut sauce. I had these at a swanky Chinese restaurant once, and they're delicious. Very different from fried Chinese spring rolls and egg rolls. The mint in the rolls and peanut dipping sauce leave a lingering--and quite pleasing--after-taste.

Speaking of peanuts...

If you ever spend some time in Williamsburg or Jamestown, I recommend taking the ferry from Jamestown across the James River to Surry County and having lunch or dinner at the Surrey House. Surry County is peanut country, and Surry House uses peanuts in everything they serve--peanut soup, peanut pie, peanut fudge sundaes. There's nothing else to do or see in Surry County, unless you like looking at fields of peanuts, but the Surry House and the ferry ride (which takes about an hour) are an experience.

http://www.surreyhouserestaurant.com/

Incidentally, on one of my trips across the James to Surry County while I was in college, I brought back a bag of raw peanuts. I put a couple of raw peanuts in some potting soil in my room one day to see what would happen and forgot about it. But lo and behold those peanuts took off like Jack's beanstalk! I was amazed at how fast that peanut plant grew and how lush it was. I had similar luck with a couple of other of my planting experiments. ;-)

Except that one of the two guys I shared the apartment with would sneak into my room while I was away and pinch leaves off my plant--not the peanut plant, but the other one. That irritated me, but he promised he'd make it up to me. He was true to his promise. One day, about a week before graduation, he scored a 1-ounce slab of hash impressed all over with exotic arabic stamps. And just in time for the week my GF and I spent in Cape Hatteras, at the campground by the lighthouse, before returning to campus for graduation ceremonies! :dreads:
