Eco's Trip to the Berkshires

Postby ECO » Mon Aug 03, 2009 8:53 pm

It was be a short trip but a trip none the less, I'm heading to the Berkshires in Western MA for two days. The resort does not list wireless internet as something they have and I just checked the coverage map for my cell phone carrier and it appears that there in no coverage there. Two days without internet access......... I'm getting the shakes even thinking about it. :-o :-o

I'd call ahead to make sure that resort has beer, 'cause if they're dry, I'd cancel my reservation. The thought of two days without beer is what gives me the shakes.

If you find yourself without wireless internet for two days and are climbing the walls, here's a suggestion. There's a museum in Pittsfield that might interest you. It has some really cool stuff. One item that fascinated me was a minature 18th century porcelain china tea set. At first thought, you might surmize that it was a little girl's toy tea set, but that's only partly correct. Actually, some potteries in Britain produced and shipped minature replica sets of their wares to potential customers in America. Though intended as a marketing tool, the minature china tea sets often ended up as little girls' toy tea sets. Interesting, huh?

Now I know a bit of history that I will pass on, thank you. I think Pittsfield is right down the road from where we are staying so I might check the place out.

This means we can  for the next two days. Enjoy your trip. Is it for business or pleasure?

Lol, don't change the forum colors/colours to pink while I'm gone

The trip is pleasure, I'm meeting up with a friend from high school, the same one that I visit in Jamaica. The same one that I went to Jamaica with in 1989.....we drove from Maine to Jamaica.........Jamaica Vermont that is.

There you go! And if you do visit the Pittsfield Museum and the minature replica set of china is still there, you can astound the curator and other visitors with your expert knowledge of 18th century ceramics. And when the curator asks if you're a visiting historian or scholar, you can reply, "No,...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night." :jestercolor:

I just got back home!

I'll post some pictures later tonight once I get through a stack of e-mails and check out some of the threads on here.

Wahoo, the water in Jamaica Vermont is liquid ice. BTW, I got a picture of your museum but since it was 30 minutes away from where we were staying I did not get the time to go inside.

On the 1/4 mile from the main road up to the resort........yeah I stayed in a resort but don't tell anyone....anyway on this short drive Bambi and her mother were trying to cross the road in front of me. Seeing as how I did not bring any food I stepped on the gas and tried my best to run them over, what a great gift fresh venison would make. The mean thoughts quickly left my head as I grabbed my camera and tried to take pictures of them through my windshield without setting the camera properly.

On a serious note, I love nature! From the smallest of flowers to the largest of god's creatures (excluding humans) I love to capture them on digital film :scratchheadblue: and for me hunting is getting a good picture.

Some Random shots taken in MA and NY. The New York border was only a few miles from us so we went over there a few times each day to eat and roam around.

Love the bambi pics! No matter how many deer I've seen, every time is always a thrill. A couple of years ago on one of my runs around Lake Accotink, I was jogging along (thinking about the cold brew waiting for me after my run) and was startled by a doe crashing thru the woods next to the jogging trail...with a buck in close pursuit. The doe quickly disappeared, but the buck stopped in its tracks, looking straight at me with lust in its eyes. I immediately caught my second wind and double-timed it away from there, without a look back to see if that buck was behind me.

Watch out for those bucks when they have sex on their mind! Those darn things fight with their horns and legs, your only defense is kicking them in their balls really hard. Of course as a Marine you could handle one with just a little hand to hand combat.

I have to say when I saw the pic of the truck, the first thing that came to my mind was "I wonder how many people have been tied to the back of it"

Over that railing was a 60 degree hill (give or take but not something you would walk down) those deer have talent. Lol @ truck, I think that truck is used to haul dead deer, bear and maybe even kegs of beer.
