Eleven children in one class have no secondary school place

A MOTHER today told how she fears her daughter may not have a secondary school to go to after she and 10 of her classmates were rejected by all their chosen schools.

More than a third of the year-six pupils at John Betts primary school in Hammersmith, including 10-year-old Mayah-Angel Gibbon, were told this month that they had been rejected by every one of the secondary schools to which they had applied.

It was one of the highest ratios of complete rejections in the country.

Mayah-Angel's mother, Lindy Gibbon, said she was worried her daughter may not get into any school, even after they go through the appeals process.

I thought the process was bad when I did the selections for my child... they say you get into the school of your choice closest to you as the crow flies.... subject to siblings yadda yadda yah... naturally I wanted my child to go to the best school in my borough and she has no siblings... she got rejected from that school and sent to one three miles further way! Can you imagine my initial panic at the thought of sending my baby girl out at 7am in the morning, to a school 4 miles away, by bus and in the dark in winter!!!! :-o Hated it!!!!

Thankfully it doesn't matter now....

a) she is in the top 3% of her year group
b) the school she is now in is the best inthe borough (better than the initial choice)
c) she is happy!

oh and did I tell y'all that she is studying for her GCSE's in Maths, English & Science this year...??? Thats a whole 2 years before she is supposed to!!!!!!!!

But damn - what are these 11 families going to do!? I know in the same situ I would not have been able to afford private education!!!
