Emu Attacks Eco's Camera

Postby ECO » Fri Nov 06, 2009 6:57 pm

While shooting some close ups of an Emu he decided to attack my camera. :naughty: I had my lens about a foot from his face and the only thing I can guess is that he saw his reflection in it (they don't like other males).

Stoopid emu! Don't they know they're lower in the food chain than us?

Speaking of food, those suckers are large! I'd be willing to bet that you would get about 30+ pounds of meat from one plus enough feathers & down to make at least a couple pillows.

I think I'd have to be starving or pretty damn drunk to eat an emu--and if I don't ease up on this 90-proof George Dickel Tennessee sipping whisky tonite, I might soon be drunk enuf to go looking for an emu to eat. Ostrich, on the other hand, I might not have to be sloppy drunk to eat ostrich. There's a place in Annandale that serves ostrich burgers. Maybe I'll go there and try one sometime soon. Though I know I'm more likely to go to Five Guys, who serves the absolute BEST burgers in this area, hands down! And they offer all the free roasted peanuts in the shell you can eat while you wait, too!

I wonder if you can eat Ostrich eggs? If you have never tried a burger with an egg on it try it..........an ostrich burger with and ostrich egg on top sounds like a good meal!

BTW, why would you prefer an Ostrich over an Emu? Aside from the size they look pretty much the same.

Wonder why no enterprising soul has yet introduced emus or ostriches to Jamaica? They'd probably thrive there. And there's probably a fortune in jerk emu or jerk ostrich to be made there.

Do you think you'll use a longer lens next time or did you like the thrill of it? Glad you and your camera are okay, I've heard those birds can be ferocious. I think we have our own Crocidile Hunter here on JAB.

If you ever find yourself on The Corner at UVa, drunk at 2:00 a.m., you must stagger to the legendary White Spot for a world-famous Gus Burger (cheeseburger with egg on top, dripping with grease, and all the fixins). Read the glowing testimonials at http://www.yelp.com/biz/white-spot-charlottesville.

The White Spot's a tiny hole in the wall. If a dozen customers manage to squeeze inside, the place is crowded. The story goes that it had once been a barbershop, with a single barber chair in the middle of the floor. When the ownership changed hands and the barber chair was removed to make way for the eatery, a white spot remained on the grimy floor, and the place has been known ever since as the White Spot.

I personally knew at least one person who died after eating a Gus Burger. My summer job for two summers while I was an undergraduate was working on the grounds crew in the gardens of the pavillions along The Lawn at UVa. Once or twice a week the old geezer I worked with would give me a couple of dollars and have me run over to the White Spot to get him two Gus Burgers for his lunch. Worked with that guy for two summers and never understood a word he said, his West Virginia accent was so thick! I was greatly saddened a few years later to learn that he had died. I'm pretty sure it was the Gus Burgers that killed him.

I was using a 18-105 set at 105 and still wanted to be closer but my camera would not focus closer with that lens. It's all about the thrill of seeing how close I can get to animals when I take their pictures.

The reviews of the Gus Burger are funny! Maybe that place is what motivated Denny's to cater to drunk people......I see a connection!
