Freaky Winter Weather

Postby ECO » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:40 pm

In the past 7 days we have gone from a high of around 50 to a low of around 5! Sunny days, overcast days and now almost a day of straight heavy rain (in Boston).

On Facebook everyone is posting pictures of snow......or nice warm beaches......I want to see hopefully a nice warm beach but I'll settle for some snow!

Had our first snow of the season this morning--enough to blanket everything with a light dusting, but it was all gone within hours. It put me in a Christmassy mood for my drive to work...till I had a flat tire on the outskirts of Alexandria. :roulette:
I'd noticed the tread of both front tires was getting smooth, so I got new front tires. There goes another trip to Jamaica!

It's been back into the deep freeze all week in Wahoo's neck of the woods. Wishing now I hadn't given away my sexy babe-magnet reindeer sweater...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! The roads are slick here, 1/2" of snow at best and people are running off all over the place. I was going to shoot a video with my phone but I figured it would cause me to crash and that might not make a great story!

I failed to check the weather last night and worked in what they are calling a blizzard today. Nice and comfortable but the 45 minute drive home was more like 1.5-2 hours since people didn't belong on the roads.....except me. It's blowing at about 30-35 knots outside now and the snow is going every where! When I last checked at 8pm we had about 9inches but with the wind I'm sure some areas have 2' while other areas have 2".

Well you think you got freaky weather – spring has already sprung in Nanoose Bay.
Yesterday I was seeing garden weeds that were in their flowering stage I shouldn’t be seeing that until March/April.
Something is going wrong or un-natural with weather around the World and man kind is probably to blame. Cheers!

How warm have you folks been Nanoose? We had a problem a few years ago with a REALLY early spring that forced the trees to bud and then we got another few months of winter. That whole year was messed up!

BTW, we ended up with close to 20" of snow the other night. With the wind blowing everything around for 24 hours some areas had almost nothing while my back yard was almost up to my waste. Now it's like summer again...in the 30's!

Well I don’t want to tell how warm it has been here because it might sound like I am rubbing it in for all those igloo and toque jokes. There is a lot to that nature thinks its spring and then – boom there is a un expected cold snap and seeds and plants are damaged. I figure that man has damaged the earth so much – mother nature doesn’t even no what to think or do. Cheers and happy New Year!

I think I could get used to living in an igloo like an Eskimo, but I draw the line @ eating whale blubber. Yech! Even on the rare occasion that I have a T-bone or Porterhouse steak, I'll just cut out and eat the lean center piece so there won't be any fat on my meat.

Got a nice blizard! Snow fall estimates are all over the place but somewhere around 18" should be correct. For the first time ever we lost power today at noonish and it has yet to come back on. The news people say 100,000 people in the state without power but I think they make stuff up.

Dusted off and fired up my boat generator but could only find a one gallon gas can...... After two trips to the store to fill it up I ended up buying two five gallon cans that should last us about 24 hours give or take. The generator is able to power a 1500 watt heater, some lights and some chargers. Funny driving around my area and only seeing one other person with back up power. That douce has a full house system and has every light on just to show off!

Hmmm 8 hours so far without power and the power company says it could be 4 more hours and they mumbled something about maybe in the morning. Bless the
for having at least 3 crews working on it in bad weather but now I wonder if they are just working on getting overtime pay.

Talk about freaky winter weather, yesterday afternoon it was so warm I was sweating like a 9-year-old Chinese factory worker, and just a couple of hours later it was so cold my teeth were chattering like I had malaria!

While visions of sugar plums danced in my head as I slept last night, we were hit with a freak ice storm, and the fed gov't announced a 2-hour delayed opening this morning. Even so, I tried to head in to work at the usual time only to find that I wasn't going anywhere for a while due to the quarter-inch-think layer of ice encasing my car--couldn't even get a door open to start up the engine and get the heater going (a good thing I'm not perilously low on beer, or I'd be forced to smash a window so I could get to a store to resupply). Came back inside and logged on to check work e-mails, and lo and behold there was an announcement that, even though my workplace generally follows the fed's inclement weather policy, all offices are closed today for employee safety concerns! Hoot hoot! (I take back most of the nasty things I've ever said about my employer.)

So Wahoo, you are like a FED now......?

I got up this morning watching:

#1. the weather channel by the hour
#2. Calling someone in Boston to get live weather
#3. Watching the road reports (1.5 hours to go 30 minutes away)

And then I called my gig to cancel and they kept talking the brown stuff that floats in the toilet about light snow for a few hours...... So we got 2-3 inches of snow, rain, freezing rain and cold icy weather.....glad I stayed at home!
