Ganja Tour

Postby ECO » Mon Feb 23, 2009 12:17 pm

Before traveling to Jamaica I knew that a Ganja tour was a must do on my agenda! I wanted to see how Ganja was planted, how it is fertilized, how it is watered and how it is harvested. Since I'm an organic gardener at home (veggies not Ganja) I had a real interest in seeing organic gardening in other countries. In the weeks prior to my vacation in Jamaica I watched about every Ganja Tour video that I could find on YouTube and in some cases I watched them a few times.

Since I was staying with some friends in Jamaica that were in the process of starting up a tour company they needed to keep their distance from anything that was illegal. This really didn't present a challenge since I was offered a couple of tours from the locals during my vacation. I ended up picking a tour on a day that my friends gave me so free time to room about one of the towns up in the mountains.

My Ganja Tour:

Before I get started I must point out RULE #1 of taking any cab in Jamaica or any tour in Jamaica-- Agree on a price before you agree on a service! So....I was sitting at a bar practicing the fine art of making the liquid in Red Stripe beers vanish when I was approached by a young dread who was promoting his Ganja Tour. He didn't need to twist my arm that much and off we went to see his "Ganja field". About 3 minutes into our 5 minute walk to the Ganja field I noticed that other Ganja tour guides were leading other tourist to the same field--oh well, so much for a private tour. The Ganja field ended up being maybe 30' wide by 70' deep, smaller than the image in my head of a corn field sized operation.

The tour consisted of my Ganja tour guide picking Ganja buds, pointing out the colors and having me smell them. In total I think the field had 4 or 5 different varieties of Ganja and they actually smelled and looked slightly different.

After about 5-10 minutes of my guide handing me buds I discovered that he really didn't know much about the Ganja, rather his talent was bringing tourist to the field and hitting them up for the tour fee. At the same moment I remembered rule #1 (see above), I forgot to settle on a tour price before I started the tour........oh well $30-$35 USD for a half ass tour was not going to ruin my vacation. While I'm standing there with my hands full of buds I began to remember another rule......"Don't bring any Ganja back to the taxi". I didn't have much time to debate what I was going to do with my pile of Ganja because I saw that my escort (taxi driver's friend) had found me. He had a short talk with my Ganja tour guide and then he began talking really firm to him about how I was not going to buy any Ganja and how the guy was evil trying to load up the tourist with Ganja knowing that the police were waiting for them to leave. With tears in my eyes I was forced to throw those cute buds on the ground....The End.

Wonder if you can get high from only chewing???????

The answer is yes! If you have an empty stomach it takes about 15-20 minutes before the THC is in your blood stream and it hits you all at once- powerful! On a full stomach it takes about 30 minutes-1 hour. Try it some time before getting on an airplane!

The only issue is that it takes getting use to it hitting you hard but that's a good issue to have. IMHO, it's a great way to fly....high and with an IPOD/MP3 player full of good music!

Do you live in the city or out in the country?

JellyBean, I just ask people "hey can you show me how to roll a perfect spliff, I'm having a hard time". <--I pulled that for days until I bought a cheap pipe.

Eco, that story brought tears to my eyes, too. :(

And I second that "Yes" reply to the chewing question.

I'd have looked like a hamster with it's cheek pouches stuffed walking back to that taxi.
