orogeny
thrust fault
spreading ridge
horst and graben
overturned beds
cross-bedding

My grandfather and uncle were both geologist and the most they could teach me was to wear goggles when I hit the rocks with the mini pick axe. Both of them thought I might be a third generation geologist but the thought of working with rocks and charting out areas always seemed a little dull to me. So..........i don't have a clue what any of those terms mean........fill us in.

Eco, next time we meet at Canoe for $200 Red Stripes or I give you a ride to the airport and you've my captive audience, I got a mother lode of geology stories to tell you. Remind me! And, no, these stories aren't like the mountain lion story (altho I got another one of those), these stories are 100% true--I got the specimens (including fossilized fish in oil shale) to prove it!

Here's a teaser for you: the spot where I helped a paleontologist from the Smithsonian excavate the fish fossils is now at the bottom of a vast man-make lake in northern Virginia.

Hmmm...April. Don't get me going! I'd pretty much dismissed any hope of another trip so soon, but I never say never. I'll know in a couple more months whether I can swing it. Have had some heavy expenses lately (including college expenses, etc), so I figure I owe it to myself to treat myself to a long weekend someplace tropical to decompress for a few days. And Negril or Negril's West End top the list. Only--if I go in 2010--I may wait till August instead of April this time. I love spring break in Jamaica, but always miss out on guineps and other fruits/veggies that aren't available till the summer.

Eco, you probably wouldn't recognize me if you saw me again. I haven't shaved for a couple of weeks, and already I look like Fidel Castro...or one of the members of ZZTop. I don't know if I can go on like this, though...the itching is driving me crazy!

You could save a little on your lodging expenses if you stayed at one of the $35-$50 a night places instead of the Ritz......I mean GP. There are places all over the cliffs that sell $300 meals and the supermarket has Red Stripes for about $100 each if you buy a six pack at a time. If you want weird fruits the AI's might have them since they favor importing food over buying it from Jamaican farmers.

Shaving is over rated, try that Nair hair removal stuff.
