Happy July 4th to you, too, Eco. I'm just killing time till about 1:00 p.m. when I'm going to take my elder son and daughter-in-law out to lunch at Mango Mike's Caribbean restaurant in Alexandria. I'm really wracked with indecision over what to have--I want to try the oyster po'boy sandwich or the cuban sandwich or the blackened grouper sandwich or the Caribbean assorted seafood platter, but of course I can't have it all. I suppose I'll order a few appetizers (the conch fritters and one or two others) us for all to share while I try to decide on the entree. I think they're planning to go to the festivities/fireworks in Fairfax this evening, and I may meet up with them there. Then late tonite, I might drive over to Crybaby Bridge and park to see if I can hear the baby sobbing under the bridge.

That's sort of funny, think about how much lower your taxes would be if England could still tax us. Then again I really can't think of any government that has a surplus of money sitting around.

Oh mi achin belly...I ate grilled blackened grouper and conch fritters till I thought I was going to pop, and here hours later I still feel like I might pop. Here's a pick from Mango Mike's of my daughter-in-law and son. She's on the phone with my younger son, trying to coax him into hanging out with them this afternoon until time to head off to the fireworks, but he was antsy to meet up with his friends. She brought her boxer down from PA last weekend. I didn't know boxers got that big, but that is one big dog! My son might have to take a second job just to feed the dog and cat!

What a nice young couple...........lol they wear the same brand of shirts, how cute and I really mean that!

On second thought I see the top of Wahoo's beer in the lower part of the photo but the man in the photo does not have a beer in front of him......it can't be Wahoo's son.

Thank you all for your compliments and kind words about the newlyweds. I see the neck of my Red Stripe bottle didn't escape Eco's eagle eye. My son surprized me by ordering a pina colada served in a coconut (he usually sticks to Jack Daniels & Coke or beer), and he obviously was enjoying drinking out of that coconut.

Our 4th of July is over for the year. For the past ten years the parties on our lake seem to go on until 1-3 in the morning and this year everyone packed it in by 10 or 1030. I had a blast with my 7 year old walking up and down our street (street is in the middle of the lake) watching the fireworks being set off from all around the lake. If any of the pictures from my phone turned out ok I'll post them in this thread.

Has it really been 2 years since my last Fourth of July post? Had nice dinner at Mango Mike's with my son & daughter-in-law & grandson (actually grandsons since #2 is due in September) last Monday after work. Started off with a Jamaican Rum Punch--it tasted like the real thing, but after quickly draining the glass, I concluded they forgot the rum. So son & I switched to Red Stripes. They served the small 11-oz bottles, not the full-size "grenades" that're served in Jamaica. Didn't take many of those to run up a three-figure bill real fast. I'll be crying the blues when I get my next VISA statement.

I hate to break it to you but Red Stripe changed all of their bottling over to the smaller bottles. I think it's 340 instead of 360ml but I'm not sure....I do know that they are smaller and they cost the same.
