Having second thoughts about my lodging accommodations

Postby Wahoo » Wed Mar 18, 2009 9:36 am

As mentioned previously, I'll be staying at the same place I stayed on my last visit to Negril. The property is divided into two parts--a beach side and a garden side, with Norman Manley Blvd separating them. I stayed in a beach-side cottage last time and luved it. This time, I've elected to stay on the garden side, where the pool is located (though I don't expect to use the pool, not with the beach beckoning). Instead of staying in one of the garden-side cottages, I requested a manor-house room. However, I just read a recent TripAdvisor report posted by someone who'd stayed in one of the ground-floor manor rooms. Though the trip report was generally quite favorable, there were some unexpected problems. For starters, the advertised "garden view" turned out to be the parking lot where the Junta drivers park. Then there were the plumbing problems (which, to the hotel's credit, were promptly fixed). I'll withhold judgment till I get there and check out the room. Maybe I'll be pleased as punch with the room. If not, I can always request an upgrade to a beach- or garden-side cottage, if available.

LOl, I can't count the amount of times places suckered me into "park views" in all cases park views=parking lot views! I almost bought a ocean front condo in Maine until I saw the discounted park views.

Wahoo, shop for the shortest staggering distance from your watering hole to your bed.

The garden view I'm really looking for is one like the garden in FM's Peter Tosh pics.

I spent a couple years in the Saco/OOB area (southern Maine). I still have family in that area and my in laws own some property up in New Portland which is next to Sugarloaf-- I think, I get the mountains mixed up. I also have some family up in Scowheegan (spelling error).

Where did you live in Maine?

Wow, Eco. I actually grew up in So. Portland, Maine, but lived for 6 years in Westbrook, Maine -- right outside of Saco/OOB. I also have family that lived in Sugarloaf/Farmington area for years. Am very familiar with Skowhegen, as well.

Do we know each other?

Small world, I spent a couple years gong to SMVTI, I think they call it SMTC now. I use to sneak into the old forts in South Portland at night. My spelling wasn't that far off on Skowhegen, my aunt and uncle live up their next to the waterfall (couple houses up from the bridge). A good friend of mine lives in Westbrook.

Oh, you said old forts. At first I thought you were calling me an old fart. Say, speaking of old forts, I been to Kittery Point. Also, a year or two later, spent a week visiting an old heartthrob in Auburn, Maine, till it was clear I'd overstayed my welcome. Water under the bridge.
