Hi, I'm Lanie, from Southern California. Just got back from Jamaica Last Friday, and want to tell you all about the great guide we found and the wonderful time we had. I hadn't been to Jamaica since 1976, and that was at 2 resorts. This time, we went native :) The road less traveled really does make all the difference :) I'll post about it in trip reports.

Welcome to JAB, Lanie. Just curious, but where in southern California are you from? I resided around Santa Ana for 2 years in the early seventies. One of my ex-sisters-in-law has been a yoga & healing center owner/instructor around Fresno for many years. She's led an interesting and varied life--lived and worked as a dental hygienist in Switzerland for a few years and then briefly as a flight attendant before gravitating to California. She also has some visits to Jamaica under her belt, long before I ever thought of visiting the island myself. Anyway, happy to have you aboard and look forward to reading more of your posts.

Thanx for the warm welcome, all.
Wahoo: I live in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. It's on the coast between Los Angeles and San Diego. About 20 minutes south of Santa Ana.

I've heard of those towns! Spent many happy hours at the beaches along that stretch of the coast--Long Beach, Huntington, Newport, Laguna. Was always enchanted by Laguna Beach, which when I was there (1971-72) was largely an artist colony in the hills above the beach. I suppose it still is. Have returned to California only once since then, in 2001, to attend a conference at the Anaheim Convention Center (and then, even though I was there 3 nights, couldn't get away from the convention center complex). A major disappointment is that I never visited the La Brea tar pits ("What Happens in La Brea Tar Pits Stays in La Brea Tar Pits"). :-P
