Hotel reservations?

Postby paradise9dread » Sun Jan 02, 2011 2:33 pm

Just wondering should I make reservations before I leave or will I be able to find a place when I get there? My travel plans will probably coincide with spring break so might be packed out?

There should be plenty of rooms available when you get there, spring break is sort of dead in JA . You will need to make up a hotel on the customs form or they might give you a hard time.

Really? Cause on one hand, I'm a little nervous about going out of the country without a place to stay locked down. On the other hand, I would like to be able to pick my location when I get there so I can find the right place. Maybe once we get there we can get a better idea of what kind of place we like for next time... She has decided it has to be somewhere with A/C, so that kind helps to narrow it down. Thanks again for the tips. I like this forum. Can be difficult to wade through the :bs: on the net.

I know it might seem hard to believe but you don't really need an AC in Jamaica. Most of the places are built to take in the breeze from the ocean and along with fans you will be cold at night.

Other than AC, what are you looking for in a hotel/resort?

Cool at night, but will we be doing much sleeping then?
I'm really not sure what other things to consider. I know we don't need a whole lot of included stuff. We can handle feeding ourselves and such. I wanna just have a home base to crash at and maybe chill out in between. Nice and comfortable, but not overly luxurious. Bottom line is of course important; closer to $50 than $100 a night would be good. Can't really be sure about the budget until we get our taxes done

Nice and comfortable.......... maybe try Las Vegas? If you have a few drinks before you go to bed everything will be good. Not to be negative but a few observations about JA lodging in general:

1. Poly sheets are more common than high thread count cotton sheets.

2. Pillows are either rocks or they vanish when you put your head down.

3. Dogs are more common than cars and they bark 24/7. After a day or two oddly enough you will understand what they are saying (someone is approaching.....).

4. Roosters like to wake up in the morning before humans.....they don't stop letting you know that they are awake until the last sleeping person gets out of bed.

5. The mattresses are not generally pillow top ones.....if you take off the sheets you will notice that they are from the World War Two era.

***I'm trying to not gets your hopes of comfort and luxury set too high so you will know to let the little things go.

In reference to $50-$100, your dates will play a large part of that. Generally "low season" starts on April 15th- April 30 and the town becomes sort of a ghost town compared to the high season. This is when places are more eager to entertain offers on lodging. During the high season it's much harder to get a deal. IMO, save as much as you can on lodging and use the extra money for some tours, massages or whatever floats your boat.
