How many clothes to bring to Jamaica

Postby Dancing Susan » Sat Sep 05, 2009 2:00 pm

I am debating on packing a change of clothes for everyday I am in Jamaica or doing laundry 1/2 of the way through my trip.

Do the hotels offer a laundry service or are there laundry mats all over the place? What do other people on this forum do? If there are laundry mats, will my stuff grow feet and walk away like when I use the laundry mat at home?

Thanks,
Susan

I have never seen a laundrette in Jamaica - most hotels have laundry service and there is always someone who will doyour washing for a few hundred dollars (JA).

I always do my own washing - it takes about 2mins to dry.

I would take more tops than bottoms because you might need to change those more often because of the heat.

Thanks for the answers!

Will hotels let me hang my clothes up on a porch or somewhere else?

I used the laundry room at Rooms in Ochi this spring and it sucked! First off they did not sell the little boxes of soap like at home so I had to go to the supermarket for a big thing of soap for one load............hopefully the people I left the bottle around for were happy. The wash and dry cycles seems to last forever and since most of my clothes were being washed I did not want to leave the laundry rooms for hours in fear that something would happen with my stuff.

On another note, my friends who are down there all the time have a lady who does their clothes by hand and they claim that it is cheap and their clothes come out cleaner than back in the US.

you can usually get your clothes washed for about 200-300J. Eco did you not see the small bags of detergent?

And if you do wash your clothes yourself just buy a bar of "blue soap" its awesome especially on whites

Lol, I only saw guessing the 64 ounce bottles of soap. Between the soap and the money for the washer and dryer ................plus my time it would of been worth it to hire someone! Lol, I think the 200-300 exceeded the cost of the soap! This time I will hire someone, thanks for the prices Damswell. Hopefully this helps the Op with her question........learning from my mistake of sorts.

Lol when I was a farmer/cowboy in VA I use to wash my clothes in the river with a old washboard I got at a yard sale! At the time we didn't have running water so it was either by hand or a 20 mile each way trip to a laundry mat. With that in mind, I use to wash myself in the river in the summer and in a cattle drink tank in the winter.............not proud but I was clean. Lol, all the hot water I could enjoy so long as I heated it on the stove.

"blue soap" is great. I took some soap with me but my partner said it is not as good as "his" soap.
