Jamaica April 2010

Postby ECO » Fri Jan 01, 2010 10:40 pm

It's that time of year again, my countdown is almost at 100 days :dreads: I'm looking to pull off a 10-12 day trip this time if all goes well.

Plans as of now:

1. See the Royal Palm Reserve in Negril.

2. Snorkel dive.........I keep saying that I'm going to bring my gear and never get around to actually bringing it.

3. Take a tour of Negril from the water.

4. Try to get down to the south coast and see lover's leap and the road that is a canopy of trees.

5. Shoot videos instead of all still photos.

6. Actually make it until the sunrise at one of the all night parties

7. Maybe donate some time on one of the projects that builds rooms and play grounds for schools.

I don't know  Once in a while I'll stumble upon some pictures and keep on saying that I'm going to visit it. It has big trees that sort of meet above the road to form a canopy of sorts.

If you or Rose are certain that it's Fern Gully let me know so I don't act like an idiot telling a driver to take me to a place where the trees are over the road

After spending an hour looking at rooms and airfare I've concluded that skyauction is still a good place to search with rooms starting at around $35 a night. Airfare on the other hand is going to wear me down like every time I go! If I extend my trip and return on a Sunday it's going to cost $100-$150 more :-(

I, too, believe Eco is thinking of Fern Gully, except that's near Ochi--long drive from Negril and the south coast--unless he's thinking of Mile Gully, near Mandeville in the central highlands, not far from the south coast.

If it's near Ochi then I'll scratch it from my plans. I know there is one within an hour or two of Negril, just need to find the name.

For the past couple of hours, I've been watching "I Was Bitten" and another TV show about true encounters in the wilds with venomous snakes, fatally toxic jellyfish no larger than a person's fingernail, alligators, sharks, and bears, and I'd advise you to just buy a 12-day supply of ganja and Rizzlas and a few cases of Red Stripe and stay holed up--safe and alive--in your hotel room for the entire 12 days! :yipes:

Lol, then I'll add bear hunting to my list of things to do in Jamaica. Actually I'll add that to my list of street interview questions "Is Rasta Alfred's bear hunting adventure really as good as the reviews on JAB?"

Mental note, stay away from the Discover Channel until after my vacation!

Excuse my airfare rant.........

Travelocity $375 (American can't land without crashing airlines) roundtrip to Jamaica..........but the returning flights for that price leave on a Sunday midday and get me home Monday :naughty: If I want to get home on the same day the total airfare is $744.43...........no thanks!

Spirit made for midgets airlines: 2 Stops on the way down :naughty: and I have to return on a Saturday instead of Sunday....... $689.04......no thanks plus 2 stops on the way home as well!

Jet Blue....who do I have to bl*w to afford a ticket airline: $908.00 with only one stop both ways

YTB Travel (I think it's a rebrand of Travelocity) $742.93

Let's see what booking buddy can do:

Expedia $616.48

Cheapoair $660.28

Tripvisor $620.28

ATI $530.78

Bing $ $530.78....hmm same as ATI!

Onetravel $565.78

Why do most of the numbers have to end in "8" is it a luck thing?

Vayami $530.78

Cheapair $589.95

Orbitz $527.00

American (booking direct) $677.98

Kayak $528.00

I think I'm done looking until the flights are in the $300-$350 range again.

George Clooney. He has the cash and he's easy on the eyes, that way you don't feel horrable before and after the act. :rolling:

I got tired of looking for a return flight so I said screw it and booked a one way ticket. I'll deal with the return flight at some point before I leave.

ECO, what if you end up paying more than you anticipated?

Hopefully that will be impossible! As of now I can get a long flight that dumps me at JFK overnight for $262 or a more direct flight for $400. Lol, I'm to cheap to pay the $400 and I don't want to sleep in JFK since that place is a shithole just like Newark. I was stuck there in the JetBlue terminal for hours and the carpets looked like they used them in a barn...........plus there were rats running around (not kidding).

If worse comes to worse I'll just get a return flight during the week instead of on a Sunday.
