MADONNA is just days away from adopting a second child from Malawi, The Sun can reveal.
The superstar singer, 50, is nearing the end of a 19-month battle to make “smiling angel” Mercy James legally hers.

She flies into the impoverished African country on Sunday and is determined to pick the youngster up.

Malawian officials confirmed that adoption papers had been filed and that proceedings would begin at a court in the capital Lilongwe next week.

Madge fell in love with Mercy, now four, after first spotting her in an orphanage in August 2007.

She has long talked of her desire for a sister for adopted son David Banda, three, insisting on a girl to “redress the balance.”

I thought the buying and selling of black people was illegal.
She finds out on Friday whether or not she can go ahead.

The thing is, if you wanna adopt an Orphan, adopt an Orphan.
Not an "Orphan" who has a father, grandmother, aunts, uncles, sibling. That is just wrong.
There are plenty of other kids out there with no-one.

I read in the paper today that David met his Birth Father while he is on this visit there to pick up his "sister", and said to his Father "Who are you?"

That made me so angry. When she first snatched him away from his father, she made some speech about keeping them in touch.
Clearly David does not even have a photo of his Father, otherwise he would not have been asking such a question.

I used to like Madonna - not so much since she started this "Campaign". I'm not sure what it is she is trying to prove.

I support her adopting...but agree with Tinks..adopt children who don't have families because there are so many needy kids who have nobody who need a home!

Well I hope she does a better job of looking after that Kids's hair than Jolie has
done with her little "orphan" from Ethiopia, or wherever it was she went and bought that one from.

I'm glad you made the comparison with Angelina Jolie cos I personally havent seen with her the same media furore as Madonna has attracted. I can't quite understand why Madonna gets vilified and angelina doesnt.

I dont know all the story about either - but with madonna and David banda I would be curious as to whether all these relations actually WANTED yet another orphan to be a burden on their lives. Did they WANT to keep them in their family and in Malwai? Or did they willingly pass the child of to a rich benefactor, whilst being relieved of a burden and also rewarded? Then also get paid shitloads of money for complaining about it to the british press?

Like I said I only know what I've read in the british press so am unsure what the situation really is.

My turn for .....

I don't have a problem with Madonna or anyone adopting a child - especially if they have the means to make that childs life 100 times better as Madonna certainly appears to be able to do.

My problem is in the fact that in the case of David (and probably Mercy), he is going to be torn because of the fact that he still has living relatives who want access to him. My personal opinion is that those people only want access because his is now in a better financial position - remember, he was given up to an orphange they didn't want him.

I think if you are taking on the role of parent to a child through adoption there should be NO contact with birth or extended family until that child is 16-18 and can decide for themselves if they want to persue familial contact. Forcing David into the situation she did yesterday was borderline child abuse...

I think it is rather disgusting how the press and people have put a damper on some child's future. People who will be going to bed with a full bellies and who will forget about these children as soon as the press stops rolling. Chuspeeeee (kiss teeth)

I agree. Now thanks to people resenting rich people's opportunities some kid is gonna live in a poor orphanage with little life prospects. She had a chance and its been taken away by envious do-gooders.
