If the ganja is compression into bricks you could fit 5 pounds in a camera bag or briefcase. Do a Google search for them pressing it into records and smuggling it out in the 70's or 80's. Most of the imported ganja comes in brick shaped packages (might vary a little in shape).

Does it make sense to any of you? :scratchheadblue:

Yes, but I think they forgot to charge him with transporting. Look up the thread from a couple weeks ago here where I was poking fun at their $20USD - 3 years in jail type of laws.............the 6 months plus a boat load of money is a good deal for him.

I'm with Rose, the man knew what was in his bag, he watched me hide it for him. 8-)

He received a mandatory sentence of six months in prison and was fined $8,000 or six months for possession, $16,000 or six months for dealing in and $24,000 or six months for attempting to export ganja.

I think he was given several options, six months in prison--if he can't find the $8,ooo he has to spend another six months for possession, and another six month if he can't cough up the $16,ooo for dealing--and another six months or $24 grand for attempting to export ganja.
Ooooh he's screwed!
This is confuseing  I should delete this it doesn't make sense :???:

Out of interest do any of you feel sorry for him?

No I don't feel sorry for him, more so for his family that were depending on him.
Maybe he was taking the package for his friend in Trinidad as a "thank you for geting
me this job!"
There's always that one person who think they are the one who may get pass inspection
without geting caught :-(

A wise person knows there's always a risk of getting caught and of the consequences. I do feel kinda sorry that he did not use his common sense and not think " Ya know, that might not be such a good idea."

In lots of ways ganja is like grass - so with proper pressure and proper binding 5 pounds of ganja or grass can be put into a pretty small package.

But even so it is highly likely that buddy knew exactly what was in his bag and he was a stupid man – he should of just used a courier service 5 pounds would of cost him $6 instead of six months. Cheers and happy week end!

Nanoose.........wake up! Most of the smuggling coming out of Jamaica is targeted at people who are weak/in need. The payout comes at the backend when they reach the UK or the states. Assuming the ganja cost $200 (for 5 pounds) and they could resell it for $2000 when it reaches the UK/US they can afford to have one out of five mules arrested for bringing the herb over. With the current risks, ganja smuggling is way to risky compared to smuggling cocaine which pays so much more for such a little risk.

I would agree with you that mailing to drop boxes and taking the risk is somewhat safer but with ganja it is still a big risk!

He's lucky he was stopped in JA, where he can buy himself out of prison, instead of the otherside of the border. The reality is this happens everyday out of that airport, I think they ran the news article to make an example out of him. My guess is it is happening even more as the economy makes locals feel more desperate.

Imagine if his wife or girlfriend planted the ganja in his bags :-o

I check my bags and everything in them several times before I leave JA just to be sure someone  did not leave a bud or a roach in one of the pockets.

Well I’m awake enough to know a one in five chance isn’t very good odds especially for
a guy with a new born child..
This might be a bit of a dream but why don’t the week and the people in need organize and form a growers/smugglers/sellers union so they don’t have to be mules and make some one else rich? (being organized and unionized does cut down on the risks)
There are lots of ways to smuggle besides going through an airport.
Cheers!

Well if it was cocaine I wouldn’t be rooting for him – plenty enough
money to be made in ganja and its more honorable.
I was thinking a little more about the Jamaican ganja union and why it’s necessary.
Ever dollar that is made on Jamaican bud should go back into Jamaica and to the people in need. Cheers!

Lol, I would not root for him either for smuggling cocaine. My point is that if money/profit is the only factor then ganja is not the best thing to smuggle. While on the subject, Jamaican ganja is not really the best ganja to smuggle if his motivation is just to have some great ganja to smoke at home.

Most if not all of the money spent on purchasing Jamaican ganja from a local stays local. Unlike cocaine where the money goes in 100 different directions, the ganja farmer does not generally have to pay off other criminals...........well maybe the po po from time to time.

Man, I'm feeling the need to put one of those "support your local farmer" bumper stickers on my car or my mule, maybe even my kids bike.

Well I’m glad I was afraid Jamaica wasn’t getting a big enough piece of the pie.
I guess I was fooling myself because I thought Jamaica was one of the few
Countries that didn’t have nothing to do with coke is there also other nasty
drugs there like crack and meth if so is it as big a problem as in Canada and the USA?
Cheers!
