I reflect on Brit philosopher John Stuart Mills' famous quote "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better persons than himself."

Then I give a few moments of silence to acknowledge and pay gratitude to those--past and present--who've served their country, and those who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

And then I dig into the Bar-B-Q and tap the keg to celebrate!

BB, Around here most of the towns have parades and some people go to the cemeteries to plant flowers or leave flags for their departed loved ones.

We don't celebrate this past holiday as 'Memorial Day'

For us it is Whitsun Bank Holiday

Our 'Memorial Day' is in November where we acknowledge Veterans day
