More dads placing names on children's birth certificates

Odd, I would think the fathers would want to be on the birth certificate.

In the UK the fathers name will appear on the birth cert only if he attends the registrars with the mother. If he doesn't go no name on the cert.

So if the father was overseas fighting in a war he would be out of luck? I can understand it if some deadbeat is too busy watching Jerry Springer reruns and can not make it to the registrars but not for someone that just can't be there.
