Obeah

Postby faith » Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:50 pm

So, do your Jamaican friends/family believe in obeah? Do you believe in it?

Someone was just killed in Negril who had just had obeah put on him. Most country folk seem to believe in it, a lot of people come to the island and visit the Obeah Man.

Do I believe in it= YES! I've seen it work a few times in the US but oddly enough I've never witnessed it or heard about it while in Jamaica.

It worked too well for me. I bought a spell to attract friends and positive people, and now those DNC canvassers and toadies won't stop calling me and knocking on my door!

Many people i know in Jamaica both country and town people believe in it. I have seen things happen to people in Jamaica that makes you really wonder if it does exist. It makes me think perhaps its real but i really dont know.

Considering that most people who live outside of Kingston, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Negril are often considered "country", it is unfair to say that most of them believe in it.

OK, I should have said "Most of the Jamaicans I know who are from the country seem to believe in it. I am only basing this on my own observations and I asked the question to get a wider perspective.

I'm a country girl, whenever Jamaicans asked me where in JA your from? Once I say St. Thomas, the first F***ing word that come from their mouth is "St. Thomas people work obeah" It offend me to the core ..you don't know me! So don't assume I am a obeah worker.

I don't work it, never seen it done to anyone, so I don't believe in it. My grandparents say it does exist, they believe in everything they can't help it they are old school.

I find the older generation believes in it. Like My grandfather, and my friend Popeye (who is 43)

Ricky hasnt said anything about it.

I think Obeah is Interesting. People always say that they work with the duppys.
Or Instead of selling your soul to the devil, when youve wronged and plead another chance.
You go to the obeah mab, but there is a price to pay.
With old African Magic, like voodoo and ting... Fish scales hanging out there house. If you can find there house.
Its actually kinda spooky.... I think I want to write a scary movie based on it!

You could play that to your benefit? Begin to chant something and watch them run :jestercolor:

Hi Faith,
Yes Jamaican belief all out about Obeah, but as my granny usually say, don't dwell on it and it won't follow you. Take a lessen from that.

It's odd in timing that this thread resurfaced since just a couple of days ago I was asking around to find an Obeah to take care of a curse put pon me.
