Paternity Leave

Postby Wahoo » Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:55 am

Good idea or just a namby-pamby excuse for more time off from work? A fellow co-worker and his wife are expecting their second child soon, so he'll soon be taking a couple of weeks of paternity leave. My employer didn't offer paternity leave as an employee benefit when my babies were born (in fact, I don't believe the concept had yet been hatched). Nevertheless, I still feel entitled, and I just sent my supervisor an e-mail requesting that I be granted paternity leave retroactively. I mean, I'd like to spend some time with my babies, too...or maybe buy them a beer.

Ooh, I like the idea another co-worker of mine (who's just as devious as I am) had. She suggested having a T-shirt made that says "Real Men Don't Take Paternity Leave" made and wearing that to work. He'd freak!

Another T-shirt saying my devious co-worker suggested was "Blah blah blah...Wife expecting...Blah blah blah." I like that one, too!

I think it's BS....same as expectant mother's parking.

Although, I admit I park in expectant mother's parking all the time. First of all, they didn't have it when I was having kids so I feel retroactive entitlement myself, Wahoo. What are they going to do? Demand I pee in a cup right there so they can check?

One day, my daughter was giving me trouble...all embarrassed. I said "maybe they think it's you anyhow." She about died.
