Pictures of St Ann's Bay Jamaica

Postby ECO » Thu May 07, 2009 12:05 am

I had to a couple of hours to kill in St Ann's Bay between the pouring rain so I shot a few pictures. I like St Ann's bay since it has everything a big town needs and it's close enough to the water to get a nice cool breeze! Since the town is not a tourist town you can walk up and down the streets all day without a single person bothering you......unlike Ochi which is just a few miles away.

With bars a few hundred yards apart I was able to keep myself entertained when the rain was coming down hard

In the last picture the guy is pushing a street cart up a hill in case you are blind.... I must of seen 20 or so of these types of carts pushing around goods while I was in town, even the design is popular. A few of them had flaps of rubber hanging off the back which I think are their breaks for when they go down the steep hills?

Yes! Mrs Brown's bar........she is a really nice lady to talk to plus her bar has a bathroom. I sat in one chair with my legs on another watching the people on the street and the traffic. Do you know her?

You are a perfect one to ask, why is St Ann's Bay so busy? Between the people walking all over the place and the roads being packed it was in my opinion a more active town than Ochi during the day.

Ochi is more busy towards the market near Amnesia, St Anns bay is a main town for all those from the hills, they grocery shop there, doctors, banking etc are done in St Ann's bay. If you had of driven up the road just past the Esso across the street from where you were, that road would take you towards Claremont, also to Lime Hall and beyond to the road that runs to Browns Town. All up there there are so many little villages and houses. St Anns bay is also a taxi change point. So all those that need to go to Ochi, Trelawny MoBay etc would come down from the hills and get there next taxi or bus to wherever they were going.

Im glad you got to visit with Ms Brown she is awesome. The taxi's that sit there in font of her bar go up past Lime Hall to where i lived initially when i lived there, to a place called Columbia and Lumsden.

I've passed through Claremont and Browns Town but never really spent time in either town. If my memory is correct, Browns Town is a good size town.

What you said about St Ann's makes sense, that is where my friends down there do their banking and other "in town" business.

Lol, I was asking Ms Brown if she knew someone else that I know with the same last name and then it dawned on me how many people down there have the last name of Brown.

That's a really nice area up there but I can't stop thinking about how fast people drive on those narrow roads and how the school children make it to school without being run over.

How much time do you spend in JA each year?

I had the opportunity to drive on my last trip and decided not to. I suck at driving in the states so I'm not going to try my luck down there. Between the bad roads, crazy drivers and the kids on the side of the road I have no business behind the wheel of a car.
