I bought a few of them without knowing what I was buying and the quality sucked. One was the Pam Lee and Tommy sex video on the boat and either the original was horrible or the copy I got was bad. Both of them looked ugly and the movie was distorted, both her breasts and his slong looked way too big.

I think the other one was the Matrix and while I thought the case looked odd I found out that is was a pirated copy when I heard people talking that were not in the movie.

I barrowed DVD's from friends, never bought any, i was too scared to buy the Pirate DVD's because the cops are in the Subway, and they know that illigal merchandise such as DVD's are been sold on the platform and in the subway cars, so the presense of cops were always visible. I refuse to go to jail for a five dollar Pirate DVD.

For me personally...a cheap DVD is not worth the organized crime and at the expense of other peoples suffering.

"The illegal trade in London and around the rest of the country is run almost entirely by Chinese organised crime gangs.

They use the money to finance people trafficking, prostitution, money laundering and drug dealing.

The pirate DVDs are normally distributed in pubs and at railway stations by Chinese illegal immigrants.

The sellers have had their entry into the UK facilitated by the very same organised crime gangs they end up working for.

David Lammy, Minister for Intellectual Property, said of the operation: "What we are seeing is organised crime and behind organised crime are gangs, drug trafficking, pornographic trafficking, sex trafficking and fraud on a massive scale.

"That's what you're contributing to when you buy an illegal DVD at a market stall or in a pub.""

To me...watching a movie is never more important that the crimes behind why I can see them cheaply. Its in the process of looking at a price tag and turning a blind eye to the rest, that keeps these evils going.

The idea that young ladies and children are being drugged and trafficked for sex with the kind of evil people that would pay for something like that would ruin watching and owning the matrix for a couple dollars any day!

The thought that the 18 year old crackheadc on the corner's habits might be indirectly fed by my cheap copy of " Harry Potter"....not worth it.

That shooting that killed an innocent child bystander..gang related...that gang might be so strong if we wern't all funding them with our illegal DVDS.

That might sound dramatic...but people turn so many blind eyes..they forget that it's the " good people" that have to somehow fund the bad for the bad to keep on going. Just becasue it takes two seconds to buy a dvd and you never see the little stall you bought it from again..doesn't mean your innocent of contributing to these evils.

Not sure where you are Bajan...but where do the people you buy the DVD's from get them?? Do they buy them off the big units that fund illegal crime..and then resell them locally??? Or do they make them, themselves. Because while you may be helping a local man...along the chain...that still traces back!

i agree BB, at some point on every industry people get expolited...be it in the clothes you wear, the toys you buy your kids, etc.... is it right....absolutely not.....many items coming from china and india have exploitation involved be it children or women in its manufacturing. i think people need to check out the whole picture and not just a small piece....pirated movies is a small piece.... the gap is actually one of those companies that have been involved in child labour to name just one

BB, they busted their ass to get those mansions, who are we to say if they deserve the extra 50 cents that we are stealing from them every time we buy an illegal copy of their art? That's like saying robbing from the rich is ok

When did this turn into a picking on the little people discussion? WE do not condone bad talking about midgets around here.

Good idea so then the humans that are exploited can stay at home hungry? I heard the same argument from one of my vendors a few years ago "don't buy xyz, they are produced in Mexico and the workers only make $XX.XX a week". Along the same lines we should not go to Jamaica since the hotel workers make $1.00 an hour?

All kidding aside, the work conditions in some parts of China are very close to forced slavery and that is upsetting.

And there you go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! point made. Based on your question!!!.... Should the Pirate DVD sellers stay at home hungry?????????????? I think not. :dreads:

Would the same thing apply to crack cocaine dealers? How about the people who sell slaves in China? IMO, we can't let everyone who wants to engage in an illegal practice do so just so they don't go hungry.

:argument: :axechase: :argument: :axechase: :duel:

I found this topic very interested and informative...I guess i'll have to stop buying knock-oof handbags in New York China Town. Sure, i know the designers are geting hurt financialy, and the people who sold the are illigals...I just thought i'm helping someone feed there kids back in Asia. I can't promiss any human rights person/persons, or anyone else, that i'll not follow an Asain lady leading me to some unknown place to get me my "knock-offs" Yes. I know it's illigal, No. I did not know Human trafficing, Child Labor, Money laundering, ect., were involve. :-) :-)

Can't we all just have a :grouphug:

I was merely trying to bring back the close bond we all had on this forum, before someone (Tinks) post her Pirate DVD's Thread. :-( :-(

I was merely responding to your post so read what you said and answer your own question  You can't argue on both sides of the fence pick one and stick to it.

I can argue both sides of the fence and choose to do so just to confuse you......and myself........maybe others.

For the record, I think that anyone who has anything to do with low quality pirated DVD's should be stoned in public.
