I was thinking about a 3 day trip to New Jersey for this weekend but now those plans are no good.

Going to Maine for a 4 day weekend next month.

Driving son back to move into his college dorm at end of August and staying overnight, though again I waited too late to make hotel reservations at the preferred motel in town, so had to make a motel reservation in Christiansburg (a dozen miles away)--at the same low-rent motel where I stayed the previous time, where the hookers were plying their trade. Hey, the price is right and the accommodations are adequate. Maybe this time I'll invite the hookers to my room for a few brews and a game of strip poker. ;-)

See if they can teach you to pull tricks, a few a week will pay for one heck of a nice vacation.

Yes it is because you have to cross water to get there.

I think any where with 'Isle' in the name should be a holiday venue.

There's a restaurant on the premises of that hooker-haven motel that on my previous visits was "under reconstruction." You can tell it catered to a rough crowd. I hope it's now reopened so I can dine there instead of the Burger King down the street (where I got cholera on my last visit). I'll ask for a table in the corner where I'll be out of the way of thrown beer bottles...

Born and raised in South Portland, Maine. Say "hello" to the place for me. I haven't been "home" in several years!

I have one “Short Term Holidays” tour to Montego Bay in summer holidays of 2008. I stayed there only six hours and went back to California because my all (touring group) friends did not want to visit to Montego Bay. They have planned to go to California but I decided that I have got to visit Montego Bay so I planned six hours tour and went back to join them.

Best Regards,

Just got back from SW Va a couple of hours ago and am still all keyed up from driving at high speed for 5 hours. Had a few hours to kill today, so I took a leisurely stroll around a public park on the banks of the New River. Paused to read a sign that explained that the park was the site of a prehistoric Native American village and that artifacts of an archaeological excavation there were on display at a nearby local museum. So from there I drove to the museum, which was housed in the stately home of a former general in the Confederate Army. As museums go, it was small potatoes, but I did very much enjoy the extended personal tour I had with the matronly lady who acted as my tour guide and saw some interesting things. One room was devoted to artifacts recovered from the prehistoric Indian village and burial grounds, and my personal guide and I spent a long time in that room, viewing and discussing the artifacts. (I dare say I taught her as much, or more, about the artifacts as she taught me.) Other rooms of the house were devoted to other historic eras. My guide pointed to one old photo of two local ladies (circa early to mid 1800's), noting the sublime differences in the ages of the two women, as evidenced by their different hair styles and dress (eg, the somewhat older woman's longer, floor-length dress so as not to expose her ankles, which would have been scandalous in that era). On this same note, in another room my guide pointed out what appeared to be a foot stool, only its purpose was not to rest one's feet but to elevate the sitting woman's feet so that her ankles would be covered by her dress. Another display was a yellowed wedding dress from that same era--yellowed not from the passage of time but from being soaked in tea after the marriage was consummated because the lady could not then wear a white dress.

I'm glad that times have changed and there's no longer any social stigma about a woman exposing her ankles...or anything else...in public.

Was comfortably ensconsed in my hotel room, enjoying a few room temperature Old Milwaukees in only my boxer shorts while channel surfing on TV, and a deep-sea fishing show was on TV. But this was no ordinary deep-sea fishing show. They were going after Wahoos! Didn't catch (no pun intended) where they were fishing--off the Florida Keys, I think--but no sooner had they casted than they were hauling in the Wahoos. As the narrator explained, Wahoo is highly esteemed as indisputably the absolute best table fare--more prized even than other billfish and mahi mahi. I wouldn't know about that, 'cause I've never eaten Wahoo (that would be, like, cannibalism or something, wouldn't it?), but I'll take the narrator's word for it.

Have plans for dinner tonite with my sons, daughter-in-law, and grandson at Mango Mike's Caribbean Restaurant, and I'm going to ask if Wahoo is on the menu. Probably not, but I'll be happy with the mahi mahi...or the grilled grouper (had the grilled grouper sandwich on my last visit, and it's was heavenly).

My motel room was $69 (plus various taxes) per night. As I was checking out, I casually remarked to the desk clerk that I'd be back in the area next Friday, though I wouldn't be staying overnight. He replied, "Good thing you won't need a reservation."

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Graduation weekend." he replied. "Rates skyrocket. A room--if you can get one--will be $200 per night."

Price-gouging greedy opportunists!

Did YOU charge her for the museum tour?

Room temp Old Milwaukees......they go great with roadkill!

I wonder how many kids are going to show up with $69 in their pocket next week? The cars in the parking lot will be a rockin :-)
