American Airlines, Will you Fly With Them?

Postby ECO » Mon Jan 04, 2010 7:01 pm

Shopping around for airfare I keep seeing cheap flights on American Airlines, the same airline that has had 3 accidents in the last month :???:

Do you write off their less than proper landings as bad luck and leave it up to the FAA to tell you when it is not safe to fly with them?

Do you have fears of flying with them that can be overcome if they offer really cheap prices?

Do you want to fly with them in hopes that they will have a crappy landing like in Jamaica so you can get $5000 for each of your bags?

The reason I'm asking is because if they keep up with the string of bad luck/bad skill the FAA will shut them down and I don't want to risk giving them money for a ticket as of now. The same goes for Air Jamaica, I think they wake up every money and roll some dice to see if they will stay in business or just cancel some flights or routes.

I usually fly with American . . . and will continue to do so if the rates are good and the flights decent.

Recently, however, AirTran and JetBlue started nonstop service out of Orlando to MoBay for around $277 - $297, and you don't pay for luggage on JetBlue, so they will, more than likely get my business.

JetBlue is starting a non stop from Boston but I think it only runs on weekends and it's priced to attract really rich people. Their mid week flights with layovers are $75 more than AA but IMO it's worth the extra money for the luxury and to land in one piece.
