Blizzard of 2010

Postby Wahoo » Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:19 pm

Has been snowing like a mofo since late yesterday morning! Had to kick the polar bearz off my deck this morning.

Image

Shoveled off my deck at 8:00 this morning (after kicking the polar bearz off), and another 2 inches of fluffy stuff has fallen since then...and still coming down hard. Just had a man-sized power breakfast (huevos rancheros, fried taters & onions, pancakes) and getting ready to shovel out my car. I might even do the neighborly thing and shovel around the car next to mine, which belongs to my hottie next-door neighbor, too. ;-)

How much did the storm bring as a total so far? We are only getting a few flakes here in MA.

On another note, there must be a ton of pissed off people coming or going to warm islands that are now stuck because of the blizzard!

Currently, 25 inches in Arlington, 30+ inches in some outlying areas. Beginning to taper off and should be done in a few hours. Almost couldn't get out the building because of accumulated snow. Managed to get the door open just a crack and squeeze through by sucking my gut in. Got the snow off my car and the front and driver's side shoveled. I'll shovel the passenger side and rear tomorrow. Not an easy snow to shovel...wet & heavy, and with every shovelful half of it sticks to the shovel. You ought to see my 13-year-old snow shovel. The entire length of the handle is duct taped...that's all that holds it together.

Friend of mine in Pa left early yesterday morning for a western Caribbean cruise (via Charlotte and Orlando) and was worried that the approaching storm might hit before he could get out, but he made it. Oh yeah, I'd be ballistic if I were heading someplace tropical and got stuck because of a blizzard.

Some of the airlines were letting people rebook earlier flights this week without a penalty for changing. I think my friends in JA were planning on flying into PA today, lol if the airport is closed they will just be stuck in JA.....not a bad place to be stuck!

Speaking of stuck, Rose21 said something the other day about being in Florida this week, I wonder if the snow is screwing up her plans to return home?

Florida would be a nice place to be rite now. Sux being snowed in, but I'm well stocked with beer and single malt scotch, so I'm surviving.

Reagan Nat'l Airport reported 17.8 inches, but every place else got 20-30+ inches. However, the snow amounts recorded at Reagan are always lower than amounts recorded in surrounding areas. It probably has to do with the fact that Reagan Airport is situated on a heat island, resulting in more melting and less accumulation of snow than at, say, Dulles Airport.

And the forecast for Tuesday-Wednesday has been revised. The forecasters had said to expect another 2-4 inches; now they're saying possibly 6-10 inches. I'm sick of it! What sane human bean would choose to live anyplace that resembles Anarctica?

I hear they are going to jack hammer VA away from the rest of the nation and attach it to the coast of Maine since they are in need of some snow. If my memory is correct, I have not used my snow blower since December.

Enjoy your day off!

The upside is there's been no mail delivery and I haven't gotten a bill all week. I beginning to wish it would snow more often!

We're in the midst of the second record snowstorm this week, and the entire region remains shut down (since last Friday). Just looked out the window, and the snow is blowing upward! Wonder what Algore has to say about this?

The weather people said we were going to get all sorts of snow here in MA and they were wrong. I canceled work for today and then had to reschedule a half of a day since we are only getting flakes.

Lol, the weather channel has us under "severe weather"...........2-3 inches by 7pm! IMO, that's a "severe letdown" compared to the 8" they promised!

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect. A significant winter storm or hazardous winter weather is occurring, imminent, or likely, and is a threat to life and property. Stay vigilant for severe weather.

You lucky sob! The fed gov't has announced it'll be closed again tomorrow (and my employer follows the fed gov't inclement weather policy), so tomorrow's another holiday. Have been getting as much work as possible done at home, but there'll still be a lot of catch-up when the office reopens on Friday. Frankly, I'll be happy to get back to work 'cause I'm starting to get cabin fever being hunkered down at home. Shoveled early this a.m. and again this evening right after Judge Judy, so I'm good to go. Maybe, if I'm feeling benevolent, I'll spend a few hours tomorrow helping neighbors (esp. the cougars) get their cars shoveled out.

I am now totally cured of any desire I ever may have had to stay in the Ice Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland.

We only ended up getting about 2" of snow, generally I would feel cheated but since my snow blower is not blowing I feel blessed!

Is it true that Iceland is now diverting tourists to the DC area since all of their hotels are booked for the winter?

Ha Ha, we dodged the bullet on this latest "Snow Advisory." Possibly another 1-5 inches was forecast for last night and today. Had a likkle freezing rain overnight but no snow, and this morning the sun is shining, with high temps in the balmy 40s each day in the 7-day forecast.
