Anthony Bourdain in Jamaica

Postby ECO » Sat Jan 02, 2010 10:23 pm

Anthony Bourdain from the "No Reservations" show went to Jamaica and someone was nice enough to publish it over at YouTube. IMO the 5 part video does a good job showing what Jamaica is like even though he did not show the nice resorts or nicer parts of the country. Ok...... the show did nto show a balanced view of Jamaica but at least it did a good job showing some of the culture and food.

Side note: :rolling: @ how he beats around the bush about smoking ganja!.

lol, I felt the same way when I saw the show about a year ago. Personally I think that's one of the reasons why foreigners think jamaica is all about resorts, weed, dreads and zink shacks. Other than that I enjoy the show, the Jamaican cultrue was visiable.

Anthony show is base on the cultrue of the countries he visits instead of the the fancy hotels and resorts. I think thats why the show is called "No Reservation"

I've watched this episode of No Reservations a couple of times, too. Love the part (in parts 3 and 4 of 5) where Bourdain is having the ital meal with the Rasta dude:

Bourdain (I'm paraphrasing): "You see the white kids with dreads down to here...mommy and daddy are rich...they're never going to Africa or anywhere like it.... So what do you do with that?"

Rasta dude: "It's a crazy, mixed up, effed up world..." :rolling:

BTW, in the scene where Bourdain is sitting on the beach and makes some veiled reference to ganja, you can tell he's so zonked he couldn't stand up without assistance if he tried! :rolling:

Nice post, these all episodes are tiny glow on food and heavy on culture. However, I think it was exciting. It is established a side of Jamaica but I did not know a lot about.
