Passport Question-Expiring

Postby ECO » Sun Feb 28, 2010 4:58 pm

Has anyone heard about Jamaica not letting you in if your passport is going to expire within a few months? If this article is true then I'm sure they must turn away a bunch of people :scratchheadblue:

Dear Travel Diva: I am traveling to Mexico April 4-11 and then again to Jamaica June 12-19. My passport expires on Nov. 14. I have been told that I could have problems in Jamaica since my passport won't have six months' validity on it when I'm there.

Should I apply for a renewed passport upon return from Mexico and if so, will there be enough time to get it? -- Outward Bound

Dear Outward: Yes, and good thinking. Many airlines require your passport be valid at least six months beyond your trip dates, or they won't let you board. Some countries have the six-month rule, too.

The nine weeks between your trips is plenty of time to send in your renewal application (turnaround time is 4-6 weeks) and get a new passport in time for Jamaica. source: http://www.freep.com/article/20100228/C ... e-traveler

Never heard of such thing. I went to Jamaica three months before my passport expired they did not hassle me at all. Thats two years ago....don;t know if they change the rules.

My sister may have some info on passport rules she travel often to Ja, i'll asked her.
