The Ruins, Ocho Rios Jamaica

Postby ECO » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:43 pm

This thread is sort of a mix of a "places to see " report and a Jamaica & Beyond forum party report.

So....on Tuesday April 21st 2009 3 forum members and a quest gathered on The Ruins in Ocho Rios Jamaica to share a great meal and tour the waterfalls and jungle that surrounded the dining area. The lunch buffet cost $15USD and includes free beer and wine. The beer and wine were horrible, I don't like to be negative but it was so horrible I could not even finish a cup! The food quality was good, not great but of a fair quality for the price so I give it a thumbs up!

After our relaxing lunch in the shade we took a tour of the property without a guide so we could explore at our own pace.

A view from the dining area:

More pictures, the first one is of some goofy tourist putting her feet in the water. A few minutes another goofy tourist joined her but my photo came out blurry.

Those pics are a feast for my eyes! Glad you guys went and enjoyed it. Aren't the foliage and the falls and the garden above the falls incredible? Not to mention the koi fish in the pools at the restaurant. I recall that when I was there 4 (or was it 5?) years ago, there were some weird things in the buffet, such as little triangular pate finger sandwiches, which I sampled and relished. I forget now what main course I had for lunch, but I do recall enjoying it immensely. I also recall I was having a serious attack of the munchies. Sorry the beer wasn't up to par. The Red Stripe on tap was fine when I was there.

LMAO at the different opinions on the food. I to didn't think the food was award winning..although some of it was really good. After eating jerk pork there...I was under the impression that it was milder than jerk chicken...a assumption quickly shot down after stopping at a jerk centre in Portland and eighty water bottles later!!:D:D

Those little sandwhiches although tasty..were ridiculous. Nothing more than super light bread with a sliver of tomato and cheese in them. Like eating air!! And don't even get me started on that horrible red wine that Eco is sure came out of a surplus large wine bottle costing two fifty american!!:D:D

LMAO...what a lovely photo of me hahahah!!:D:D:D Special!!:D

And the plate situation was horrible. Tinks and I come back with heaping plates and the boys come back with dainty little plates with mostly healthy stuff on them. It was so imbalanced LMAO!!

I'm going crazy lookin at these photos! Wish I could've been there with you all so I could've acted as your self-appointed tour guide of the gardens and explained the aphrodisiac properties of the various plants to Ash and Tinks. ;-) And also so I could nyam some more of those little finger sandwiches.
