Precautions to Take When Traveling Solo

1. Research your destination and the safety thereof, and book your hotels in advance. Make sure the hotel is in a good neighborhood.
2. Check that your travel documents are in order and keep extra copies handy. Store copies in your e-mail account that can be accessed from anywhere.
3. Pack light as you will have to carry it all yourself. Keep money in a secure and hidden waist-pouch.
4. Dress conservatively as some cultures require this whether you think this fair or not, be mindful of local customs. You will also prevent a lot of unwanted attention and harassment.
5. Keep someone regularly informed about your whereabouts, and also keep a mobile phone with you, along with the phone numbers of local police-stations, hospitals, railway and bus services, your embassy.
6. Don't travel alone at night. No point in being unnecessarily brave.
7. Try to sit next to another woman while traveling on public transport, and, if asking for directions, ask a woman or a man with children.

Excellent points.

And I always try to sit next to another woman while traveling on public transport. ;-)

In all my future solo travels, I'm also going to take a St. Bernard with one of them whisky casks attached to its collar in case I find myself out of rum and too far from the nearest beach bar.

Wahoo, if you are on Facebook add Rafjam (the blue mountain place where I stayed), they have friends up there with those types of dogs. In another month or so I'll be up there hiking to the peak of the mountain and hopefully those dogs will carry my rum, women and other sins.

I wonder how much chow one of them big mastiff dogs consumes every day. My three likkle cats are nothing but four-legged eating machines, and it seems like I'm always either feeding them or shopping for more catfood. It must cost a fricken fortune to feed one or two of those big dogs.
