Raccoons and their brown stuff that floats in the toilet

Postby Nanoose » Fri Aug 26, 2011 8:00 pm

Last night I watched a documentary about urban raccoons and it was quite interesting.
They showed a mother raccoon showing her young how to collapse their spine so they could slip into a small opening looked kind of weird but amassing how they fit through such a small space.
They also talked about how raccoon viruses and diseases can be transferred to humans.
The worst one is from coming in contact with raccoon droppings there is a worm and if it has laid eggs those eggs can become air born – enter a humans system and cause sickness and sometimes death. They showed a guy sweeping out a shed full of raccoon droppings and I thought that’s how I would of done it but all your doing is getting the eggs air born. There has been many times that I have picked up a dry raccoon droppings while tidying up flower beds and I never use work gloves but I’m not going to do that no more – dry or frozen those eggs will lay dormant until they enter a host. Cheers and happy week end!

That's weird, plenty of people keep them as pets without an issue....other than the raccoons destroying their home.

There were quite a few things in the documentary about raccoons that were weird and a bit alarming.
Its uncommon that a human can catch a virus from an animal (like we can’t get mad cow dieses and I think its because our DNA is so different). But there were a few raccoon virus that can make the jump and effect a humans system.
The documentary was part of – doc zone and its got a lot of interesting episodes after the raccoon one they had one about military robotics – were it got a bit alarming is there are 47 Countries that have, and are developing or obtaining military robotics – the episode was a couple years old so I bet it’s more then 47 Countries and the technology has advanced quite a bit. Cheers and happy week end!
