I've stayed at the Rusty Nipple several times.

I also rented a private cottage called Te Moana. I have pictures of both . . .

Let me know what you find since I might stay in town for a night. I might also try to make it to Negril for a night so I can get some sunset photos.

Eco if you get to Negril I got lots of cheap places to stay there.

And Tinks....are you uppity? Do you need to stay in a resort? Or will a cheap place suffice?
BTW if you stay at Riu we're not allowed in...LOL maybe that's your reason. And its not really "in town" so you'll be taxi-ing to come see us.

Do you require:

Hot water for showers?

A shower with water pressure?

A toilet that flushes without clogging?

If you need these types of things I have no clue.

Lol, I didn't even have a towel when I stayed at the farm on my last visit. We went into town every day and I never cared to look around for one. Our water was sort of warm..........one drop at a time. I'm not a picky person so the little things don't even phase me.

Crystal Ripple (otherwise known as the Rusty Nipple) is about 2 miles outside of Ochi and definitely not a high-end place. It's too far out of the way, the rooms are just "okay" . . . and definitely the only thing going on is peace and quiet.

The Cottage is also outside of Ochi -- a couple of miles . . . and difficult to get to -- or get a taxi from. I wouldn't suggest either place.

What about Rooms on the Beach . . . it's right next to Jamaica Grande and within the city limits.

Well none of the LARGE resorts are right in Ochi, they will all require a taxi. The only thing that really comes to mind RIGHT IN Ochi is Rooms on the Beach. Its clean, nice, has a restaurant, not sure about a gym, beachfront.

Thats all I got.

If it makes you feel better, I'm reading your posts in this thread! I'm still thinking about getting a room for a night but miles out of town or a resort do not really do it for me.

Royal Plantation Ocho Rios From $320 to $600 per night I'm taking a wild guess that they are not talking about Jamaican dollars!

http://jamaica.hotelguide.net/hl1oc.htm has them listed by address, I'll poke around on it once I get back from taking the kids to lunch.

Great location but horrible reviews--actually pretty funny!

edit, I could not resist copy pasting this:
DON'T GO THERE!!!! YOU WILL RGRET IT!!!

My husband and I booked this hotel for one week. We were looking forward to having a relaxing tie there, but we was in for a big disappointment. The staff was friendly, that is a plus for them. The room was ugly and uninviting, so unattractive. The sheets were dirty and actually smelled dirty. We noticed what appears to be "discharge" on one of the blankets. My skin actually crawls. The mat was ald and dirty and the skirting on both beds were dirty and torn at the edges. The pillows were dirty and smelled foul, the pillow cases were very old and worn. I had to use my towel (thank God we brought our own) on the pillows at nights.

$20 and having to deal with taxis almost sounds more appealing than $80+ and having to deal with semen crusted sheets. I much rather sleep in a barn with goats than sleep in what was once was a wet spot.

You don't have to take a taxi from where we are. You can easily walk downtown in 5 minutes.
