Red Stripes Getting Smaller

Postby ECO » Wed Aug 25, 2010 11:14 pm

Last night I picked up two six packs of Red Stripes to stock up the refig on my boat. After having a couple of beers I noticed that some of the bottles seemed smaller than the other bottles :yipes: At first I thought I was going crazy and then I looked at the labels, some said 12 ounces while others said 10.2 or 11.2 (crappy memory and yeah pictures of the crime would be nice). While I was relieved that I wasn't going crazy, I was upset that the store charged me the same price even though the one six pack contained far less beer than the other.

What sizes are being sold in your area?

Should we boycott Red Stripe?

Do the caps seem harder to remove at home with a lighter compared to the ones in JA? <---Maybe I'm just out of shape removing caps :scratchheadblue:

I'm gonna start using a lighter to remove my bottle caps, too...no more chipped teeth from removing Red Stripe caps with my teeth!

Eco, yes, I believe we should boycott Red Stripe to demand a halt of production of those small bottles. I've almost finished making my "SIZE DOES MATTER!" protest placard. :jestercolor:

Heretofore, the only thing I ever boycotted is French wine, but this is really getting my dander up!

You probably got a six-pack bottled for distribution outside the US. Cruise ships usually get those as they get them cheaper than cans or bottles made up for sale in the US. One might wonder where and how your store got those bottles.

Eco, I'll trade you 2 Old Milwaukees and 2 Busch ("Smooth as a Mountain Stream") beers for 2 of your 10.2-oz Red Stripes...okay, one 10.2-oz Red Stripe, but that's my final offer! :givemebeer:

You ever had Narragansett Beer? I picked up a case on a drive thru Rhode Island years ago...it was great for cleaning the chrome on my car's bumpers.

Lol, we drink that stuff after racing sailboats on Tuesday nights. With 6-12 normal beers in you the stuff doesn't taste awful plus it's really cheap on tap!

I don't know, the weird thing is that they were selling both. Come to find out they are selling the smaller ones up in Maine.....hopefully it's not a product switch to smaller bottles!

Was in Giant yesterday and just happened to be pushing my cart past the beer aisle  and saw one of those short bottles of Red Stripe in the section of single bottles/cans. I've noticed that several Giant stores now have a section of single bottle/cans of beer, presumably to discourage customers from breaking up six- and twelve-packs. The prices on those single bottles/cans would gag a maggot, though!

12 packs of Red Stripe at Shaws (food place) in Maine are $11.99 plus 60 cents for a bottle deposit. Funny how the prices are the same or cheaper than what I pay in Jamaica. Wray & Nephew overproof rum is $18.99 a bottle in MA and RI...... pretty sure that is what I pay in Jamaica.

You've noticed that, too? Often when I buy a 12-pack or a case of Red Stripe, I laugh and comment to the cashier, "As crazy as it sounds, Red Stripe is actually cheaper here in the US than it is at the source!"
