My son’s getting a cow.

Postby Nanoose » Wed Oct 14, 2009 12:39 pm

During our Thanks given dinner my oldest son and I had a little laugh about my youngest son’s plan of getting a calf and raising it for meat.
He lives in Saskatchewan his yard is 50 feet by 500 feet so there is plenty of room for grazing (for about a week). What will probably happen is he and his gal will get attached to the cow and not be able to slaughter it. Then they will start making clothing for the cow just like they do for their Chowowa dogs. So if your ever in Saskatchewan and you see a cow in a back yard wearing a sombrero – that’s my boys house so stop and say hi.
Cheers!

Tell him to give it a mean name or name him after food. When I use to raise beef cattle in VA these are some of the names I used; Adolph, Hitler, Veil, Patty, Chester the Molester (he was a perv)........I forgot the rest but everyone had a name. When it came time to bring them to market there was not a tear in my eyes.

I can see that helping so I’m not going to tell him.
The boy has worked on the killing floor of slaughter house for years so maybe its time he sees the outside of a cow. Maybe if they start dressing up the cow he will get his 15 minutes of fame when they run a story on the news. Cheers!

Yep a Mexican hat sombrero with dingo balls - plus a matching poncho. Cheers and happy week end!

See I'm a huge animal lover, but I learned growing up on a ranch leave certian animals in their place. Leave wild animals in the wild, leave the animals being bred for meat alone as to not get attached. One brilliant year I rescued five baby raccoons and three baby lambs whose mothers refused them.

It was fine and dandy. Gave two raccoons to a petting zoo and two ran away. Then one day my lone Rocco the Raccoon was attacked by a wild one. He was never the same after that. Went out to the barn one day only to discover he'd made use of my other pets...for dinner!!! And then that was the end of all my pets.

I'm sure however that cows ae much more mild...especially if dressed in sombrero's LOL!!!

Raccoons are mean – I know a guy that had a 2 of his dogs drowned by 2 raccoons.
The raccoons lured one of his dogs into the middle of a pond – sat on its back and drowned it. When the other dog jumped in t help the raccoons drowned it too. Cheers!

I have always dreamed about having a cow that would fetch and be excited for me to come home from work. My whole family including my own son thinks I am a nutcase. I'll sleep better tonight knowing that I am not the only person that wants to raise a cow.. I am normal afterall :P

If they could just breed mini cows like they have mini horses I would love to have one! Every time I see those mini chickens I begin to think how a few of them would be a great addition to my backyard farm.
