I think I will, I think I might...

...mosey over to the Sunset Grille in Annandale tonight.

Actually, in a couple of hours, around noon, but "noon" didn't rhyme.

As one reviewer wrote: "The Sunset Grille has always been a rough place. Knife fights, surlybikers, trampy middle-aged women. If you like that sort of thing, this is the place for you. The bands are sometimes really good, but sometimes not. Either way it is always cramped and smoky. And don't eat the food."

Went there just once before, about a year ago, and had a couple of Bloody Marys, which were surprisingly good. I'm feeling somewhat adventurous/dangerous this morning and want to get out, so might head over for a noontime Bloody Mary...or two...and to check out the trampy middle-aged women.

Back from Sunset Grille already...just a few patrons at the bar (regulars, I assume) and a few beefy (and fugly) leather-clad biker chicks there at noon. Had a decent Bloody Mary (for my daily recommended dosage of vitamin C). On Sundays, Bloody Marys are only $2.00 till 2 p.m.! So I might have to make this a regular Sunday brunchtime custom. I would've stayed and had a few more Bloody Marys, but I was keen to get over to Home Depot to check out the tomato plants. Got two nice cherry tomato plants to grow on my deck. Want to get a jalapeno pepper plant, too, but they're not out yet. So I'm almost all set for spring/summer.

I was pleasantly surprised Home Depot had some flowering tomato plants. Yesterday I stopped by the nursery where I usually get my plants, and they didn't have jack available yet.

Next time I go to the Sunset Grille, I'll borrow my Marine son's Kbar fightin' knife (my birthday gift to him a couple of years ago) just in case any surlybikers get uppity with me. Had dinner with him, daughter-in-law, and grandson at Mango Mike's caribbean restaurant Friday evening, and he announced the good news that he's being promoted to Corporal April 1st. He's finally gonna be an NCO (noncommissioned officer) and rate the blood stripe on his dress blues trousers. It's a big deal. His unit's also on standby to go to Japan to participate in the relief effort there.

Be respectful to the bikers! Years ago I use to work behind a bar...can't say I really mixed drinks since it was mostly a beer joint. A pack of 20 or so bikers would come in a few nights a week after getting kicked out of all the respectable bars.....the bar I worked at was a shithole. One night they decided to set off fireworks in my bar, kept warning them and finally called the police. Those fuckers really held a grudge against me for having to climb over the back fence and walk home since the cops waited by their bikes all night. A few weeks later they decided to break bottles and fight with them....another call to the cops. Before long I was bringing my 9mm to work (had a concealed weapons permit at the time). I ended up getting fired from that job for calling the police too many times and kicking unruly people out=loss of money for the owner he claimed.

To give you a feel for how much of a shithole it was, when I was hired I was paid something like $7.00 and hour and was told to never ever expect a tip from any of the locals. Our cheapest draft beer was 80 cents and those fuckers really wanted their 20 cents back. If they had to wait more than a few seconds for a refill they started to throw their glasses to teach me a lesson. Lol, if they were so drunk that I had to carry them to the "hotel" upstairs (shithole monthly apartments), they would bitch the next day that I embarrassed them. Lol, the bathroom was so nasty I would just piss on the floor since nobody would ever notice the smell.

On your next trip to Jamaica you should rent a Harley instead of one of them scooters. The locals will think you're a badass biker and give you a wide berth every time you enter a rum bar.

Just curious, but I wonder who's been trying to login as me. When I logged in this morning, got one of them messages "You've exceeded your maximum allowable login attempts" and had to key in a series of letters to verify my member status. :scratchheadblue:

Eco, from your description of that bar, you could just as well have been describing the Sunset Grille, except the bikers pretty much stay to themselves and the regulars, though a bit cliquey, seem friendly enough. The walls are festooned with patriotic stickers ("Jane Fonda--Anti-American Traitor Bitch"), and judging from all the USMC emblems, they seem to hold Marines in high esteem, so I don't feel too threatened or that things could turn real ugly real fast.
