Transport from Sangster airport to Sunset Beach Resort

Postby hoboat » Fri Nov 27, 2009 1:05 pm

Hi what is the best and cheapest method for transport from Sangster airport to Sunset Beach Resort. There are 4 of us with luggage and I want a minivan or bus. Also, what is best way for getting back from the hotel to the airport? Thanks

Sunset Beach is in Montego Bay. In just about any pic of Montego Bay, you'll see two towers jutting out of the bay in the distance. Those are the twin towers of the resort. Airport transfers have always been included in my packages, so I'm clueless as to what charge is considered reasonable. It's only a 10-minute drive from the airport, but expect to get reamed.

If your hotel does not offer a shuttle tell the taxi drivers you are willing to pay $5.00 or maybe $10 for the trip. If you ask how much they will quote you $25-$35. Don't feel like that is a great bargain since a local might get the same trip for $2.

Be sure to make sure your taxi has red license plates since the white plate ones will NOT cover you if they get in an accident.

That's one thing I loved about Cancun on my first visit there in the late eighties. A taxi to anywhere in Cancun (the hotel strip or the town) cost a flat $3,000 pesos (about US$1.25). And if a taxi driver balked and wanted more, there were also ten others standing by eager to take your $3,000 pesos and take you where you wanted to go. I don't know what the current rate is--probably at least 5x as much.

Wahoo, I think the shuttles from the airport in Cancun are now around $15 or so. The buses went up from 30 cents to I think 80-90 cents and to the best of my knowledge you can stay on them forever if you just want to ride the same route.

At the airport in Mobay it's a buyers market since there always seems to be a fleet of taxi drivers fighting for every fare. With most people (assumption) already having a shuttle waiting it amazing that all of those taxi drivers are able to eat at the end of the day.

Hi

I am not sure where Sunset Beach is, but we used a taxi from the Airport to the Iberostar Grand which was about 15 minutes.
The fare was $30 and then $25 back to the airport.
Call Vinton Crawford 876 479 6059 to pre arrange.
Say hi to him from Stan in Toronto.
