UFOs, reverse technology and zero distance string theories.

Today my oldest son posted a video on facebook about UFOs and how scientist are using reverse technology to figure out how they work. (they start taking them apart until they find something they can understand then build on that). There was a part in the video about gravity field differentials and time field differentials which I found interesting but can’t completely understand because it probably has something to do with zero distance string theories and I am not into quantum mechanics but my son is and maybe I can get him to explain it. Don't understant why some people spend so many time and money on "UFOs" when there's no solid proof that they exist. Or the scientist know something that we don't.
