Waa gwaan, mi dupes

I have read this forum and "that other board" for the last couple years, mostly to stay in touch with what is going on in JA. I really like the vibe on this forum so I figured I might as well say hello. I don't think I need to explain why I never really posted on the other forum. I am getting excited about my trip to JA in November, so being able to talk about it online adds to the fun.
I first visited JA several years ago (2001). Although I am an American, I have lived in a few third-world countries and travelled quite a bit. I like to vacation out of the US in laid-back, nopretencious places, so Jamaica was a perfect fit. Since I like to experience new places and cultures, it wasn't a place I went everytime I vacationed. During one of my trips there I met someone whom I am now married to, so most of my international travels for the last couple of years have been there. I just counted my passport stamps and have made 12 trips to JA. 2007 must have been a good year, or I see now where my retirement fund went.Him soon come to the US, but we all know what "soon come" means. I have mostly stayed in or near Negril but my favorite place in JA is Port Antonio and have spent time in Ochi, Kingston and (only when necessary) MoBay.
BTW- "Mi dupes" is my friends

They are correct, I want to go up the river on a power boat, not a canoe. I've seen pictures of the river and the palm reserve and they looked nice, am I missing out on something bad about the river?

I was told that the trees along the river are overgrown and it's not easy to navigate so a canoe is the only type of boat that is typically used on it. My source could be wrong, but it sounded like no one wants to risk a good boat on it. You probably know that you can get on a powerboat on Black River, but of course you would want to see the "ecotourism" of the Royal Palm Reserve because your name is ECO.

Lol, I am looking forward to seeing the Royal Palm Reserve but not paddling there in a canoe while on vacation. I'll just burn fossil fuel and drive there
