I'm going to dig some more since I can't imagine more than just a fine but I am wrong all the time about stuffLate last year, police raided the Kingston recording studio of popular singer Buju Banton. They found two live marijuana plants. Banton was found guilty of ganja possession and cultivation, and sentenced to serve 60 days in jail or pay a $9,000 fine.

A fine of no less than US$100 per 28 grams or imprisonment up to 5 years may be imposed for a conviction by a circuit court on a marijuana possession offense. There are slightly lower penalties for conviction in a resident magistrate's court.

IMO, the $100 fine is fair but the 5 years in jail is downright scary!

I'm starting to wonder if people really go to jail for just having a few spliffs. I don't get why Jamaica is fining people in US$....????
How they gonna build their economy if even the courts reject the local currency!!??
They are able to charge you with transporting ganja.......does that mean walking from one side of your front yard to the other or driving a cargo ship filled with it? Plus as you noted they can't make their mind up as too what type of money they want.
