First, there's the Bunnyman of Reston. This is documented in Fairfax police records. One version of the Bunnyman legend is that one Halloween night he dressed up in a bunny costume, shot his wife and kids, then opened the door to trick-or-treaters all night with the corpses of his family still in the house. He's reputed to wear either a bunny costume or rabbit skins, but in all variations on the story, he loves to terrorize little kids and kills people. In some versions of the tale, he's a deranged, hatchet- or axe-wielding escapee from an insane asylum in Lorton, known to throw hatchets at passing cars while shouting "You're on private property and I have your tag number!" He even has his own bridge, the Bunnyman Bridge. Carcasses of rabbits have been found around Bunnyman Bridge, and teenagers have been found gutted, hanging from the bridge. Cars passing under the bridge sometimes stall...and won't start again.
Then there's Crybaby Bridge in nearby Maryland. A young woman became pregnant and gave birth to a baby she couldn't keep, so she threw the doomed infant from the bridge into the water, killing it, and then jumped and drowned herself. Even today people who visit the bridge late at night and sit very quietly swear you can hear the faint sobbing of the infant from beneath the bridge.
I won't even mention the half goat-half man creature that lurks in the dark woods nearby.
