What is a Billion?

Postby ECO » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:28 pm

The next time you hear a politician use the Word 'billion' in a casual
manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency
did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in
One of it's releases.*

*A.**
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.** **

B.**
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.** **

C.**
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.**

D.**
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.**

E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.**

While this thought is still fresh in our brain let's take a look at New
Orleans. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.**

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) is presently asking Congress for**
250 **BILLION DOLLARS**
To** rebuild New Orleans.*

*Interesting number...*

*what does it mean?*

*A.**
Well, if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man,
woman, and child) you each get **$516,528.**

B.**
Or if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home
gets**$1,329,787.
**

C.**
**Or if you are a family of four your family gets*

*$2,066,012.**

Washington, DC*

*HELLO!**
Are all your calculators broken??**

*
**(And to think, we left British Rule to avoid so many taxes)**

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?**

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
And our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
And Mom stayed home to raise the kids.**

What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians'**

IMHO, many (if not most) fines for "traffic violations" are nothing more than another form of taxation...revenue enhancement...whatever you want to call it. And it makes me CRAZY when I see cops (in both marked and unmarked police cars) routinely running red lights and stop signs, changing lanes and making turns without signaling, speeding, speeding through school zones at 55 mph, etc--in other words, violating all the laws they'd ticket or arrest YOU for if given the chance.

And IMHO, when cops break the law, there is no law--it's the Wild Wild West.

Take a Billion and multiply it by Two. That's what US taxpayers will be paying for the Comedian-in-Chief's upcoming 10-day Mumbai trip.

Well could be worse - Canada’s Prime Ministers can waste money for 8 years before they can be voted out. I am getting so fed with our politicians that I almost didn’t capitalize Prime Ministers out of spite.
The part about comedian and chief made me think about Richard Nixon – not because I think of him as a comedian but because he was a Commander in Chief and he is the only US President that I kind of had (and still have) a relation ship with. I took the day off school to protest the Amchitca nuclear test) But as I got older and wiser I figured my heart never was in the protest I was just there for the girls and if I had done my homework I would of joined the pro Amchitca protesters you got to test those sort of things and I figure back then a successful test spoke volumes.
(late 60s and early 70’s were some scary times I think the domes day clock was set at a second to 12:00)

There is a Hollywood movie called Dick its about 2 high school girls who are fascinated With Richard Nixon and they get a job walking his dog and then stumble across some evidence about the Watergate scandal. What’s hilarious about the movie is when they were fascinated with Richard Nixon they would walk threw the crowded mall and say thing like – I love Dick but after they found the evidence they would walk through the crowded mall and say things like – I don’t know if I still love Dick. (you can imagine what they said when they met the informant – Deep Throat. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you but at the end the 2 girls come out in cheer leader outfits and roller skate around the Oval office. Cheers!

The Bank of England adopted the '1000 Million = 1 Billion' American definition about twenty years ago, and in practice, everyone else followed suit. Whenever you hear someone talk about a Billion Pounds or a Billion People this is the definition they are using.

An English billion is 1,000,000,000,000, whereas an American billion is 1,000,000,000. An American trillion is the same as an English billion and an English trillion is a million million million.

Yet the Mooch in the White House continues to take one extravagant vacation after another and spend, spend, spend. She took 120 "closest friends" with her to Spain. Next up, Africa. I wonder how much this inspiration trip will cost us. At a time of near bankruptcy, is it necessary to fly to Africa to inspire the youth there? How about busing her oversized butt to one of our city ghettos and try inspiring the youth there?

I think she has a fine butt – but she should be saving her Country some money. Are pollutions and their spouses are the same waste waste waste. I bet throughout history that ever Country or Nation that has collapsed was because of greed and waste. Cheers!

I don't comment on sitting Presidents but it's really time that some leaders focus on keeping their spending a little more at home. IMHO, Air Force one should be grounded until every family has food on their table, every homeless person is offered shelter....and on and on. In my state it's illegal to NOT have health care....people struggling to live but they are forced to spend their money so the state does not have to pay for them during hard times.
Camp David is there for a reason, a short drive from DC, any other travel is out of the budget.
