What does Friendship mean to you?

Wow, 3 times now I tried to answer this and ended up deleting my answer. At some point I'll try again, until then.......

a friend is someone who does NOT:

lie to me (except for little stuff of no merit like telling me that I look great in my yellow leather pants and pink shoes)

steal from me

use me more than I use them (the amount of dead bodies that we bury for each other has to be someone even)

I've recently begin to re-evaluate my definition of friendship. I've had some hard long struggles with some what one sided friendships with several people and when I go to the doctor and discover an ulcer in my tummy from stress over things I have the power to control....it's time to learn what real friends are and take charge of that.

A true friend is:
-Someone whose not always perfect...probably a bitch sometimes...but knows where to draw the line...and when they've gone to far.
-Someone who might screw up...but does not have the pre-meditated intent to hurt or belittle you
-Someone who will stand by your through everything...if you would be willing to do the same
- Someone who loves and supports you...but doesn't sugar coat things. Who else gonna put it to you straight if a true friend won't?
-Someone who genuinely cares about you...and proves it through their actions...especially in the non fun times..or the bad mood days!
- Screw the saying that a true friend will go down beside you....and go to jail with you if you screw up. A true friend will come visit you in prison and bitch the hell out of you for being such an idiot. A true friend will not support badminded things...and stupid choices...but they will help you recover from them and get back on track!
-Someone who genuinely loves you...GENUINELY...with no ulterior motives
-Someone who hangs with you..not just because your some emotional crutch to them
In the end a true friend is someone with half a brain who knows how to stand true with someone...be honest and faithful in their friendship. No backchat and badmind actions!

Tinks I have a name for people like that. Toxic! I agree with you fully. Friendship should be about building up and not tearing down. However, they are some people who strive on toxic relationships whether friendships or otherwise and then bitch about it day and night. If a relationship is not healthy, the wise thing to do is to end it. The bottom line is that friendship is about loyalty and trust if that’s missing then there is nothing.

Your "toxic" friendship comment reminds me of a conference I attended a few years ago with an employee of mine. The speaker spoke for an hour about the evils of a "toxic employee", at one point during the speech my employee and I glanced at each other and he declared that he was my toxic employee and I stated that he was correct. Lol, we both knew that I should fire him and it prompted him to do a 180 and he is still with me to this day.

One of my favorite quotes "be slow to hire and quick to fire" <----IMO this can be used with friendships as well.

Hmmm this has been a good thread for me. I tend to be a sucker with friends sometimes...but thankfully I'm lucky to have friends like Tinks who give me a swift kick in the arse to wake me up!!

Well a friend is someone I can trust with my money, my life and my wife.
I have lots of buddies and acquaintances but only 3 friends.
When we greet we say my good brother.
Awhile back I posted a photo of my BBQ since then a friend asked if he could
have the iron cook stove so he could heat his trailer – I gave it to him – if he was only a buddy I would of told him to piss off.Cheers!
