What if the North American First Nations asked for rent right from the start?
I once asked this same question to a friend of the family who was (RIP) an aboriginal that grew up in the streets of Vancouver - part of his education was in one of Canada’s residential schools and if he had a nickel for ever time a nun hit in the knuckles with a stick for speaking his native language to his brothers and sisters – he could of bought 20 bottles of aspirin to ease the arthritis he developed from getting hit in the knuckles when he was a child. He was not offended by my ? and we had a debate about it.
I figured that the very first time a white man stepped foot on North America the tribe that lived in that area should have been there to say WTF and sent them home or charged them rent and mooring. My friend’s argument was the white man had superior weapons and numbers – I figure back then a boom stick took a minute to reload but you could get 20 arrows off in that same time plus I weapon with a 5 foot barrel isn’t very efficient in the forest compared to a hunting bow. Back then the aboriginals weren’t really out numbered but they were separated – different tribes bands and nations fought amongst them selves but maybe if they had worked together and the inland Natives kept the coastline Natives supplied so they could defended the shores. Back then Britain and France couldn’t just send their entire army’s to the new world because they were involved in lots of battles in Europe.
I figure in the beginning if they weren’t aloud to come ashore and start building forts and the North American First Nations worked togehter they would now own North America. Cheers!
