Who Pays for the Jamaican Kid's School Outfits?

Postby ECO » Mon Feb 23, 2009 2:04 pm

Question: Every where I went in Jamaica I noticed that all of the kids were in uniform. Do the tax payers pay for the uniforms or do the parents? If the parents don't have money for the uniforms what happens?

The parents pay for the school uniforms which are compulsory and they also have to pay school fees and exam fees too. The Jamaican Government recently introduced help towards the cost of CXC exams for children of secondary school age but this is actually minimal. If the fees are not paid then the children are not allowed to take the exams. Unfortunately no school fees...no school...no exam fees...no exams!!

I just think the kids look so cool all dressed up in clean uniforms compared to how kids dress in the states.

i know people who get the uniforms made - the children look so smart in their uniforms compared to those here in the UK.

I went to turtle park one saturday and children were having extra lessons there and had to pay JA$1,000.

Depends on what school. My kids wore uniforms. Let me tell you, pain in the ass. Every year having to go out and buy the expensive special plaid uniform. Loved when they finally went to navy blue and you could get them everywhere.
